anyone have any tricks for bleeding brakes? Its a 56 chevy with power disck on front and stock drums on the back. I have tried the hand pump deal for hours and hours and still have no pedal.

Did you bench bleed the master cylinder? If not, do it. Then start bleeding the farthest wheel, working towards the closest.

  3. So you're running a power brake booster? Any helpers available to pump the pedal while you open the bleeders?

Yup. Just run the lines from the output, right back into the reservoir, keeping the tubes immersed in the fluid.

  7. I seen the brake mechanic at the Ford dealer I used to work at, use a retractable rod(or anything you can find)between the pedal and the seat, to keep it depressed

Did you adjust up the rear shoes first? Once you stop getting air you have another problem. It should not take hours to get the air out unless you forget to refill the M/Cyl and you run out of fluid and then you have to start all over again and bench bleed the M/Cyl again at step 1
