This bizarre machine, christened the Hélica, was designed a century ago by Marcel Leyat. It’s a hybrid vehicle halfway between a plane and a car. The design of this strange vehicle went against all the principles of auto construction at the time, because Hélica didn’t have a gearbox, a driving system, or a drive wheel! This revolutionary prop-driven car was very light, simple, cheap to run, and fast. Its performance was amazing: it could do over 60 mph and weighed less than 300 kilos with two p***engers. See the period film of it in operation as seen below and many more details at TheOldMotor.com
Video doesn't work for me, Fixed it!.HRP <iframe width="640" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/VnyKNO958OY?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Could be Firefox,,I reposted it again hopefully anyone that can't view it will be able to with this one. BTW,,I always enjoy your post and this is a Cool video. HRP
first vid didnt work, the fixed vid did and wow! thats crazy, like driving an airplane with no wings around. would love to hear how loud it was.
'Dangerously fast' for sure. If you're crossing the street with that thing coming at you, you pick up the pace for sure. Walkers rights be damned. Love the wobbly wheels too. That sure is confidence inspiring.
could have maybe used a cage around that prop besides the ring around the cir***ference of the blades, maybe kinda mesh covering to keep out body parts and such, damn cool machine though dig it
The "video" in the first post is not a video at all its a screen shot. If you go the sight in the link provided , the actual video is embedded there and works fine. Well worth a trip to the sight and neat car/plane thingy
^They had some sort of screen the guy threw his hat against it and the other man his coat. 60 mph with rear wheel steering is scary, I did like the three wheel turn
