    Thanks as always for the kind words guys.

    Hey Carsten, Happy new year to you too. Funny you should mention colour. I spent pretty much all evening searching the web for paint ideas. I want to do it in a traditional colour up to about 1953/4 ish. I haven't decided on a particular colour yet and everytime I look I find something else I like. I don't mind if it's just a base colour or whether it is a metallic. I at first thought of black but having seen pics I think a lighter colour gives a better impression of the size of the car and also shows of the shape better. Probably a lot safer colour too as the body shell is going to take major work to get straight and a lighter colour may be a bit more forgiving.
    I'm open to any suggestions that anybody may have as to colour. I will post up some pics in a bit of the ones that caught my eye.

    Paul.

    Nice work so far dude. I am glad I subscribed to your thread. I think I can a lot from you. I have a 57 buick special sitting in my garage that I havent touched in 2 1/2 years. The floors not as bad as yours but I know Ive got my work cut out for me. Hey man I just picked up a auto selling magazine last week and damn if it doesnt have a 37 zepher in it for sale. The picture of it is small but its in color. It looks like a dark maroon color. If you want a picture of it to get a idea for color then let me know and I'll send you a picture of it.

    Hi classiccarlover, thanks for the offer of the pics, I really like the dark maroon/burgandy colour but I want something slightly different from the stock colour. Seems that a very high percentage of zephyrs are painted in this colour.
    My Zephyr came from Michigan (mt pleasant).

    Here's some colours I have been toying with. I really like this blue

    [IMG]

    I also like the look of this biscuit/tan colour

    [IMG]

    But top of my list at the moment is this what to me looks like a metalic/candy type maroon. Something about this colour just makes me keep coming back to look at it. Mind the same goes for the blue one, but I think maybe that colour looks a bit to modern.

    Lets hear your opinions guys.

  10. first thought, Paul: that tan beats it all!!!!!!!

    that blue is a fantastic colour, but after watching it a while it's too much, i think! just my opinion...

    I do tend to agree with you Carsten, but Beverly really wants her Dodge coupe done in that tan colour and I don't really want both cars in the same colour.
    I still think the lighter colours really show of the body shape and size better though. Seems like the shape is lost in the shadows a bit with the darker colours (unless it's just the pics).
    I really want this to look traditional too so it's got to be right. It needs to look right at home on JBs 48-52 new old style customs thread.

    WOW ! Very inspiring... Subscribed, or as my english woodworking teacher would say:

    "Your in the queue"

    Paul, How difficult is it to obtain your MOT, when she's road ready?

    My other fave translations:

    Clamp = Cramp
    Sandpaper = Glass paper
    Query = question
    Borrow = Pinch

    Good luck with the build- Walt

    The teal blue does look too modern IMHO.
    Love the metallic maroon - it´s much like Titian red by the look of it.

  18. what James D said, the blue looks modern..

    and Paul, i don't know Beverly, but i'd say, don't mess with her in colour things!!!:D i'm lookin' forward to your colour choice, you're right, the lines work out great in a lighter colour! you'll do it, i'm sure, and chances are good for me to see you, Bev and the car in person !! ;) goood,

    Carsten

  19. Been sneaking in on this thread every now and then for a while now and you are doing a great job I must say. About colour choice I would defenitly go for the maroon,maybee even a little bit darker specialy if you´r after that classic look.That´s just my 2 cents

    That floor looks great all painted up.
    Actually it looked good steel too.
    Great progress in record time.

    I really like those lighter shades as well.
    They have a classy look.
    But what shows off curves better,
    a bikini or a dark tight dress?
    Tough decision!
    ;)

    Yeah that's all well and good, but what about the colour Ernie. :D

    Although I really like the teal blue I also think it is to modern for what I'm looking for.
    I have a while yet before I am going to need a colour, but time has a habit of creeping up on you pretty quick.

    A less turquoise blue would probably look good. Something like this...

    Threads about 37 zephyr coupes make me miss mine.

    As for color (by the way, you english keep spelling this word incorrectly) It needs to be from the palette of colors that american cars from the late 30's-late 40's were painted. Most early Ford/Lincoln cars and customs were deep dark colors like maroon, dark green, and dark blues or black. That blue color, although a pretty color, is far too modern.

    Hey Acme, wondered when somebody would pick me up on the spelling of colour :). Wondered why my computer put a red line under it when I typed it, like being back at school Lol.
    I am in complete agreement that I need a colour as close to period as I can find. I have dismissed the teal blue as although I love the colour it's not for this car. I do really like the brandywine colour though.
    Definitely not flake on the zephyr, gold is a possibility I have toyed with along with a bronze or copper bronze or even a brown.

    Still chipping away at it, got all the seams and any welding seam sealed to stop any future problems.

    I have tackled the very bodgy repair on the front crossmember. The spring had forced it's way through at some point the same as the rear had, the repair consisted of several hefty lumps of steel bolted in place to hold the spring.
    This ended up raising the front by at least an inch, time all the steel was in place. I have repaired the crossmember and raised the top an inch which should give me another inch drop .

    I have also welded up some of the many holes in the firewall, several were original and had the pins in that held the sound proofing and some have been put in over the years by previous owners. Some were drilled right through the swage lines.

    I also had to repair the mount that the steering box bolts to on the chassis, when I removed the box there was a crack in the mount, so I v'ed it out and welded it up again.
