I hear grunts and groans when someone uses a seat from a SUV, even the frame from a S-10.What is the general dated car or part accepted by H A M B?.:)

It's more about the year of the vehicle: 1965 or older. Period.

In terms of S10 stuff; not HAMB friendly.

The general rule: if the stuff wasn't used "back in the day" when they were building what we call "traditional" hot rods, then it's no-go here. There are certain exceptions; for safety related items (disk brakes, radial tires, etc), but that's the general gist of it here.

This is a traditional hot rod and customs forum, so if it isn't traditional, it'll be frowned upon, and rightly so.

Yep, what VoodooTwin said (especially freakin' S10 frames). If you want to use a seat out of an SUV then what the hell, go for it. If you can make it look traditional, why not? Innovation and "working with what you have" are also part of traditional hot rodding.

That being said, it all comes down to this. Build what the hell you want. You don't have to listen to anybody. BUT...what you build may or may not fit in with the HAMB. Personally, I like "traditional".

while there are published guidelines for the HAMB and this forum, and many of us feel we've been deputized to 'square you away' for transgressions from the traditional mode, there's nobody that's going to bounce you from here for using the tilt column out of a 74 Monte Carlo, or the bucket seats from a Toyota Corolla. Just don't make those items the focal point of your commentary when discussing your vehicle. Pre-65 is the rule (minor exception for cars/trucks that are similar in design/style to the 1964 edition - such as Chevelle, Corvette, F-150, C-10, Barracuda, etc). As Saxman has noted, the car hobby is all-encomp***ing - build what YOU want/like. Just don't come in here honking your Roadrunner horn or bragging about your drifter. We appreciate car folks of all description, but in here we speak "traditional" to the pre-65 styles and trends and base vehicles.

:)Thanks all. I was looking for a number. It's 1965. What I want to see is a well built 32 Roadster with a VW 4 banger !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rolleyes::p Riding high, smoken the tires. lol or like the pictures below, can t get more traditional than that, but nobady builds it here. Why? Too much California and TV influence. But that's ok. Well and good. I was told at one time all the west coast hotrodders were Hoosiers, who moved to California so they could hotrod all year. lol :D The designer was born, lived, worked and died in Michigan. Prolly very few H A M B ers know this car. It was valued at $200.00 in 1943, was auctioned in the 80s for 1.78 million. Bill aka Tnomoldw

Just do not post those modern mod's here.

  10. That's Edsel's Model 40 speedster (the second car that Bob Gregorie designed and built for Edsel). The frame has a seond front crossmember to move the front suspension forward 11" and the rear was cut and flipped at the kickup to make the rear suspension underslung...

There are at least three threads on this car- you're going to have to do better than that :D

Dont underestimate the people on the HAMB...

I'd guess most have seen pics of Edsel Ford's 1934 Roadster, and know what it is.

Also, No VW's on the HAMB.
    ( with very few exceptions)

'cause Ryan doesnt want them here.

    Edit.

What you are proposing is basically a VW based Bugatti kit with a different nose.

If it is the California influence that keeps things like that from being built.
    then "Thank you California"

They were not building TRADITIONAL hotrods "back in the day". They were just building hotrods. The tradition comes in building a car like it was done prior to '65.

Personally, it would be '48 and older for hotrods, but that's another topic that gets beat up. No need to do it here. Again.

:)I understand all of what all of you are saying.I just wanted to bring it all up for my personal enjoyment and for those who maybe want to know what it's all about. I don't underestimate any one.
Ryan kinda backed off of the Porches a few days ago when he saw that a legacy was in the open. That's good though. It shows he is a gentleman.
I enjoy this forum vey much.I don't have any projects any more.I surley did in the past, like alot of you,Too many.Looking back the ones that piss me off are the ones I had to give up to get something else.
I'll be 75 next month. It's been a great ride.Good Luck to all of you on your projects. Thank you all, Keep em between the lines and the rubber side down. 65 and 48 hmmm;) I have never owned a VW but I used to go to lunch with a Bud who would buy as many a 5 totaled Beetles during our hour of seeking bent iron. One Nova or a Chevy van was enough for me.We never competed with eachother.:) Bill aka Tnomoldw

When the going gets tough the tough get going!

Read my post again. You may have missed the words "what we call"......as in today. Yes, I realize they weren't building "traditional" rods back in the day. Duh. :)

There are three things that just don't fit in a traditional hot rod: disc brakes, machined wheels, and tilt steering. Sorry; that's just the way I feel.
