Hey gang, I am not a 1:1 builder, but do build plastic models and this site has been a treasure trove of info....I need help finding out what shade of blue would be close to Ohio George Montgomery's '33 Willys gasser....any help is appreciated, thanks! (reasonably close is good enough, doesn't have to be exact, lol)
It was on the cover of a car magazine I ran across a few weeks ago, fairly light blue as I recall. A HAMB member has the front fenders off it, maybe the original blue is still there. Bob
Thanks Bob! It is difficult on a monitor to see a close shade of the blue due to different cameras taking different photos....I'm sure there is something close out there.
There was an extensive article with high quality photos of Ohio George's 33 Willys in Rodder's Journal #20. Enough info and photos to build a detailed model from.
Thanks Bob, I do have the fenders and the paint is on it or should I say most of it. It falls off in big chips but if you send me a PM with your address I'll put a chip in a soft envelope and mail it out to you. I am adding a picture maybe that will help. Pat
Seems like it was a mid-50's Cadillac color if memory serves me right, which sometimes it refuses to. I used some old Krylon Short Cuts paint in the wee can for this one. I cannot recall the exact color name though.
A Cadillac seems probable he ran a blown Caddy motor in it at first and his 34 Ford coupe was the same color also. Pat
Pat. Are those fenders the stock ones that had the odd flat headlights, or are they somewhat modified with the normal sealbeams? bob
I would call it baby blue, for lack of a more precise description. I was working the top end at Dahio Drag Strip in Dayton, Ohio when George made a pass with this car. Dahio was a taxiway at the Dahio Airport and was not in the greatest shape. George hit a pothole and broke an axle. He managed to keep the car shiny side up, but ask me if he was mad
if it doesnt have to be exact id just use testers light blue easy enough or if you want some flake use tester one coat laquer ice blue
1953 caddilac pastoral blue, next wednesday we will be getting together to celebrate his 80th birthday at Marions Pizza on North Dixie at noon; the other George from Dahio, middle eliminator 1957
