ok. so I have these 56' cadillac hubcaps. and I have this 53 cadillac. But the hubcaps don't fit my cadillac. I mentioned this in 2 other threads but nobody said anything so I figured I'd make a thread for this exact issue. my question is this...TONS of people run these caps. What rims do these caps fit on? Will these rims fit on my 53? Help me out folks. I need to get this figured out in the next day or two so i can find wheels that will work with these hubcaps and my cadi. So I can drive to paso with them on my car.
If you have true '56 hubcaps...the deeeeeep dish ones....they will only fit '56 cad wheels, without modification. Personally, i've only seen a few run these caps...now the '57's are everywhere. Ever look at a '56 cad wheel? It's basically made backwards...looks like the center was installed backwards. These caps will almost fit a 8" chevy rally wheel, but lack about 1/2 inch seating..I do know of one guy who found a set of 8" white spoke trailer wheels and got them to fit...maybe this info will help...good luck. Brian
will 56 wheels work on my 53? or is it gonna interfere with the drums etc? Cause I'll search the planet for a set of 56 wheels if that's what I need to do.
I ran 56 caps on my '65 caddy, they snapped right on. the stock wheels are reversed(atleast the ones on my car were). Probalby not as hard to find a set of mid 60's caddy wheels as it is the earlier years. '56 isn't the only year of wheel they fit. if you find a set you will notice the rivits are on the outside of the wheel instead of the inside where they are normally put them. FED
hmmmm.....now that my friend is good info. I might have to go into every vintage yard in the area with one of my hubcaps and just see if one clicks. It looks to me that cadillac ran one kind of wheel from the late 40's until 1955. Then from 1956 on into the 60's another type. So maybe I'll get lucky and just have to find a junk 63-66 caddy somewhere. Thanks for the boost of morale. I appreciate it.
you rock. so I've got 61/62/65/56 all as for sure options right now. Lookin better so far. Sweet. now to find them. and someone willing to swap tires off my 53's to the new ones...you know a lot of places don't do that anymore. They only mount new tires....sheesh. I used to mount tires all the time on an old school manual set up...it's not that hard. haa.
I know this is an old thread but hey, that`s what they are here for right. Did a search and came up with this thread that was started on 56 Hubcaps. I am trying to fit up some rims to my Merc project and I really want to use my 56 hubcaps. I have found a set of 61 Cadillac steel factory rims (same 61 and 62). Will they work with the 56 cap? How did you make out? Here are some pictures of the rims offered to me. They don`t look deep enought to accept the deep 56 caps. I included pictures of the 61 or 62 cap and the 56 cap. Thanks, Rhys.
For history purposes and fitment of the 1961 Caddy rims here we are. I am going to run with them. The 56 Caddy covers do not run out to a full wheel cover on the 61 or 62 rims, but man they are on there as you can see from the one picture of where the "teeth" react. I "blued" the back of the cover and it did not touch the back of the rim, so they are one of the rare factory rims with a big enough positive offset. My guess is that the 56 rim is the only rim that truely works with the 56 hubcap. Regards, Rhys.
I want to run them on my 51 Merc as well but two things come in play bolt pattern and the off set on the og caddy wheels. Has anyone altered these caps to fit other rims?
I too have a set of 56 caddy hubcaps that I intend on putting on my 54 chevy. After going to the junk yards and not finding much, I've decided to buy a set of steel wheels from HotrodHanks. The hubcap is 3 and 5/16" deep, so I'm gonna get a set of 15x7s with a 3" backspace. If I calculated right, that'd give me a rim that was 4 inches deep. Am I missing something?
After reading the above posts I'm not sure if the questions was ever answered. I have a 51 Merc that I'm trying to put 56 Cadi hubcaps on. Like the other threads I too am having a problem with spacing. I had my original hubs redrilled but the offset is so extreme that the studs were not long enough. In addition, it appears that I would need a 3/4 spacer on the rear for the rim to seat up to the hub properly. This whole wheel project has left me scratching my head. Does anyone have any suggestions?
