Thanks Hitchhiker. I've been following your build for quite some time. Hope to see yours on it's feet soon, or at least eventually.

I may be making a run down to Thun Field Rod and Custom today to poke my nose in and say hi. I'll also be looking to get some small bits and pieces that I need and have them look at my "B" head if they have the time.

My radiator hoses are ancient, and the upper one has a small split in it. So I've got to get replacements before any more 'round-the-town shenanigins. I'm hoping that someone local has 'em.

Just don't let the wheel spin rapidly in your hands once the twine is dried and hard. It'll rip the skin off your fingers and palms, literally. Voice of experience...

^ True. The trick is to keep the twine treated with Pine-Tar. Keeps it soft, makes it more grippy, and makes your hand smell like a forest! Chicks dig it...

It'll get dropped all around. I'm planning on about 3 1/2-4" in the front, and about 2-3" in the back. But I'm waiting 'till I have all the parts to do it, all at once. So in the meantime, I'm doing things here and there, driving it, and saving for the upcomming swapmeet season...

My Coupe was the same way. Took up all the slack from the adjuster and it didnt help much. Ended up heating and bending the arm on the clutch release shaft

Well, its been a while. I've been really busy, but all that time away from the cars looks like its going to finally pay-off. I'm buying my first house, and as an added bonus, it already has a really nice detatched garage and shop, with way more room than I have now in my rental.

In the meantime, I pretty much stumbled on a nice pair of Guide 682-C's. I'm in the process of cleaning them up. In keeping with the mid-to-late-40's build focus, I'm mutilating a near-perfect original '28-29 headlight bar, that will allow me to mount them to the frame horns, and run a front plate. I scored a pair of nice un-restored YOM plates while I was at it. Anyway, here's a mock-up before I get to welding...

Well, got the last big piece of the puzzle to get the car sitting the way I want, my axle from Joe Casto...

So, with that on hand, here's the 'final' suspension spec list:

    - 3 1/2" Stretch-Dropped Original Ford "A" Front Axle (compliments of Joe Casto)
    - '32 Perch Pins (compliments of ePay)
    - '32 Spindles (compliments of Amocat Speed Emporium)
    - Stock Un-Split "A" bones
    - Stock "A" Front Spring and Shackles (or maybe a '32 main leaf and '32 Shackles)
    - '26 "T" Sedan Rear Spring with Reversed Eyes and "A" Shackles (compliments of Craigslist)
    - Mechanical Brakes all around (at least until I scare myself, or not...)

I can't tear into the car just yet, its got to be driveable for the impending move, but I can start mocking stuff up to make sure I have enough spindle clearence and whatnot. Let's see if I can pull this off...

Looks like everything should fit just fine, using only stock, or in the case of the axle, modified Henry-Built parts...

Oh, and my lights are mounted up, along with this year's Alliance Tag...

(I've still gotta clean-up the bulb retaining rings, and get new bulbs, but I couldn't wait for a look-see)

That's the car that hs me looking for a '32 grille for mine. I love that red tub even if it is a bit too 'modern' for what I'm trying to achieve...

that looks like a great platform for a build. i am loving the steering wheel trick too, it'll probably keep it from burning up your hands in the summer! keep us posted.

Thanks. Its a pretty good pile of parts to be building off of. The lady and I will be driving through Sac next month on our way down to SoCal. I'll definately make a stop by the shop on the way...

Mahalo. I've got your thread subscribed to as well. Maybe if the weather up here was as nice as it is in your corner of the world, I'd be getting more done since I wouldn't have any excuses to not go outside. Or, I'd get nothing done, due to Loco Moco coma...

Well, its been a while, but there's not much to show for it on the tub. Over the last month we've been getting settled into our new house (finally), which means that the Phaeton has taken a back-seat to the house, and garage.

But about that garage... it's awesome. I finally have space to spread-out in and soon I'll have a place for everything and everything in its place. That means the build should go much quicker when everything settles down and I can get back on it. I now have all the little things to throw the suspension together including all the shackles, bolts and the like, they are just in boxes, somewhere. Anyway, here's the tub in its new digs, and yes, it drove there...

Evan, you do realize that the more space you have available the more "stuff" you find to take up that space...............;):D

Thanks guys. Its nice to have a garage that is mine. I do see the pitfall of more space, and the more stuff argument.

But at least I can tell myself that since I'm not dealing with a hodge-podge of random ricketey shelves left over from my landlord, I can actually, truely, organize. And with a little bit of discipline, it should keep things tidy, and me out of trouble. Well, we'll see how long that lasts anyway...

...in anycase, I need a few more cars to catch up with you, Bob.

Well, I took the tub for a ride around the new neighborhood yesterday. I had to park it out front while I was moving things in and out of the garage, and wouldn't you know it, it broke.

Not too major, it appears that the bendix decided to was done and now the damn thing won't crank over no matter how much sound and fury the starter motor gives. After a push start, thanks to my Fiance and a neighbor (I think I really like my neigborhood) she drove back into the garage.

Seems like a perfect excuse to start tearing into it...

...a few packages from our friendly early ford parts houses should be on its way.

  26. No crank? Much easier than pushing uphill.:)

I have the crank, but it seemed easier to push start it, we were on flat level concrete. My headlight bar kinda makes the crank a bit of a pain in the **** too, although I have hand cranked it since I installed it.

    Finally, some progress...

I got my Police "B" head back from a shave n' a hair-cut at the machine shop, and since I 'had' to take half the day off work to go to the dentist, I took the opportunity to get crackin...

I tore the front of the bay apart and after some ado, got the old head off the banger. What greeted me under that, after a bit of clean-up was this...

...a fairly fresh appearing short block, with clean .030"-over cylenders and pistons. Should do nicely.

    Out with the old...

...and in with the slightly less old.

Anyway, I managed to get quite a few things done and cleaned up between the radiator and the firewall. In the end though, I couldn't find my stupid stud-remover-thingy-tool, so I wound up ordering a new one through the local Baxter's. The studs are soaking in penetrating oil, at least till friday when, with new tool in hand, I should start back on it. 'Till then, here's where we left off...
