I collect Chevrolet dealer posters and other items, usually 49-54, but I bought this one recently. it's like 33 x 20". I'm thinking 56 or 57 since there is no oil filter on the intake, but I don't know if that was an option or standard equipment. anybody see any details that would make this one year or the other??
I'm guessing 1955 210 from the white paint in the hubcaps and the two spoke steering wheel. Nice find. Jay
'55 and '56 had oil filters, but the '55 filter sat on top the intake manifold, so I'd guess it's not a '55 without the filter on top. Both '55 and '56 had rounded frame horns. '55 engine: As you can also see the '55 had a snorkel on the air cleaner housing, but '56 was like the one on the poster and no snorkel.
this I know for sure (almost), the 2bbls didn't have the snorkel air cleaner until 58... I bought and sold a few in my ebay days. I looked at steering wheels online and got nothing... seems like they had 3 spoke and 2 spoke at the same time on different trim levels tried ebay.. what a joke that place is. 1955 chevrolet steeing wheel brings up 400 items, about 10 were old steering wheels. I don't know how anyone can find anything in ebay motors. gotta be a tri 5 guy out there with the definitve answer.
Snorkle air cleaner was used on the 4 barrel engines. 2 barrel carbs had the air cleaner w/o the snorkle. Oil filter was an option in 55, blue & orange unit was dealer installed. Jay
there it is... the hubcaps. looks like 56 had black where the white is and 57's were completely different. I had always ***umed the oil filter on the intake came with every motor in 1955. optional oil filter, whodathunkit? this is some sort of GM educational poster. he also had one for brakes, steering and an older one for 3 speed transmissions, this one was by far the coolest.
They are educational posters. I started teaching in 1979 and still have a laminated set. The one showing the 56 body construction is also cool. The others show Delco- Remy ignitions, gears, and carb circuits. .
The white on the hubcaps, as has been said, indicates '55. A friend of mine had an original '55 265, no oil filter at all, not even on top.
Ditto on the no oil filter. The original 265 in the '55 in my avatar has no oil filter. '55 blocks were unique in that they had no provision, while the '56-57 had a boss cast into the lower left, although it was still optional in '56.
X2 on JBH , I own 2 '56s and it's not a '57 because they changed the front frame horns. The rounded brackets were typical in '55-56 although they were slightly different. There were also two different type frames the "one piece" and two piece. California cars were allegedly all one piece but there are exceptions as I own a wagon built in Janesville that has the one piece , go figure .
