Looking for some inspiration for my new track roadster project. So lets gather up a collection of dash pics from dedicated race cars. I'm not talking about modern street car "race-inspired" dashes, I mean all business original race car dashboards. Land speed, drag racing, road racers, track jobs, whaddya got?!
In this side shot of the Doc Eiland roadster you can just see the guages abouv the door. A tach and two guages in a flat sheetmetal firewall were all this car had when built in the late 50s. Sorry for the small size.
That's alright, this car rules. THIS is what I'm talking about. Doesn't have to be fancy or even rare stuff, just actual real racecar dashes.
Seems to me that post war, you would think alot of returning GIs would've thought to use gauges from military jeeps and what not. Just the bare essentials there. No tach though
Wow, I'm suprised that pic worked. These are the gauges I plan on running in my next car, with the exception of the speedo.
This is, if I'm not mistaken, an older Porsche.. And while this isn't strictly a race car, I think this is one of the most perfect dashboards I've seen, if not one of the best interiors I know of. If I recall correctly, the body might have racing history too.
That is absolutely gorgeous - I LOVE that shifter as well, not exactly what you'd call a short throw, lol. Interesting battery placement as well. Do you know what the car is?
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=431579 One of my favorite Ts ever.. I seem to have a lot of favorites. I've been saying that quite a bit. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
acknowledging my total ignorance - what is that side-shifter ****** in the most recent posts? Certainly appears to be a FoMoCo product, but I've never seen one with the tower attached to a side-plate.
Here's one I posted on the Gauges! Social group. Real state of the art 40's race car with a stepped seat. JohnnyA By the way here's the link for the Gauges! Group for more inspiration. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=442
