We are trying to put together another group for 2013 to do some nostalgic racing. The group is the Southern Nostalgia Stock/Superstock Drag Racing Club. We raced last year and definitely enjoyed ourselves, but we would like to reach more racers that would like to participate with the group. The following is an email I received which covers the intentions of the group for 2013. We would like any interested parties to contact us as soon as possible because we are trying to calculate a car count to aid in planning of the season. The club would be in the area of Leaksville Mississippi to Meridean MS to Mobile, Al. to Dothan Al. and Panama City Florida(just a general area). If you are in this area or close and interested please message me back for additional info. A meeting was held on Sunday afternoon, 1/13/13, a number of racers from the 2012 SNSSRA met to plan another nostalgia racing season for 2013. Ideas and suggestions on every facet of a proposed nostalgia drag racing program were discussed and kicked around for 3 hours. The objective of the SNSSRA in 2012 was to drag race for fun. This theme continues for 2013, racing for the fun of racing and the fellowship that goes with this type of sports activity. No one racer is going to make money off of the program. The goal is to get track participation by offering the track or tracks a diverse number and variety of older nostalgia race cars for their fans to watch....cars that the fans don't see every week-end. With planned track participation, this will enable all the racers participating to recover some of their travel expenses. Here are some of the points that the group discussed at the meeting on Sunday............ 1) We would like to put together five (5) , possibly six (6) race dates beginning in March with the final race date in October. This will be over an eight (8) month period. We will need to research schedules from all the tracks in the area to be able to schedule good dates and avoid any conflicting race dates at other tracks. 2) This will be NOSTALGIA racing....This means foot braking and no electronic aids, cross-overs, etc. allowed......This also means no nitrous used........... 3) We will use a full Christmas tree with a 5/10th light, foot braking as it was done in the 60s. 4) Points will be awarded to each car attending each race and points will also be awarded to the winners of each round of index racing in PHASE ONE and to the winners of each round in PHASE TWO, which determines the "TOP DOG" for the race date. All money received from the track management at each race date will be EQUALLY DIVIDED a**** all the cars that are in attendance. Current day drag racing programs at most local tracks call for mostly bracket racing. It is generally accepted that this is the fairest form of drag racing and particularly for the cars that are "PROPERLY EQUIPPED" for bracket racing. Index racing programs such as the 5.70, 6.0 and 7.0 are also now popular at some tracks, however, the cars that participate on a regular basis are also equipped for this type of racing. There is no way that the nostalgia racers with foot-brake cars can consistently and successfully compete. Car count numbers are very important when approaching drag strip management for race dates. Without numbers or some ***urance of numbers, getting bookings becomes a hard sell. When a race date arrives and the number of cars promised are not there then at that point, the member of the nostalgia group who contacted the track for the race date is in hot water with the track management and also the track management is in hot water with their own race fans who came to see the nostalgia race cars because of the track promotion of the event. And for this reason we will need to get some ***urance from racers who join this drag racing group that they will make a concerted effort to attend and race at all the scheduled races. The beauty ( if you can call it that ) of this racing club and it's proposed format is that we will be racing each other within our club therefore one member of the club will always be the winner. We will race "HEADS UP" by index for show in phase one of the race program and final eliminations in phase two will allow all cars, regardless of how they finished in the index portion of the race to race again by individual dial-ins selected by each racer for the trophies. This way no car or cars gets out run only one time and has to load up and head home. This will ensure multiple runs to provide more action to the individual racer. The final race (in October) will be like an awards banquet and race all in one. The recipients of the contingency awards will be the racers who have earned the most points. We plan to have money and race products to award to the racers who have earned the most points. This could go right down to the final day and final race. It is important for us to know if you are interested in joining and participating with this NOSTALGIA CLUB in 2013. We must have a sufficient number of cars for the tracks to be interested in having the club racing at their track. If the interest and numbers are not there then there is no need of going any further.
Cool , I live in Daphne and although my 64 is a street car I would come during the events to support. I do have a friend who races nostalgia s/s I will p*** this on to him.
