i love old trucks. the 48 in my avitar gets drove every week and will get a work out this year. to get to the point, i am restoring a 51 f-2 for a customer and he had the flathead v-8 rebuilt but was not drivable with the rear end and 4 speed.i updated it to a 9" ford rear and half ton front spindles and brakes with 5 lug wheels. i used a flathead kit to put a 5 speed from a s-10 in it and used speedway motors kit. very good kit, but absolutly no instructions or any one in tech that could answer my questions, so, i was on my own.i put all the parts in and then tried to get the trans in alone. no way, just dont have the strength any more. so i figured out, thanks to the hamb to usr 2 1ft. pieces of all thread instead of short cut off bolts like some used. i put 2 at the top, got the adapter plate started, and it slid up and in place slkern snot! try it next time your on your on, it works great.
i know thats the truth, i beleive you lurk around on here as much as i do. beats watching opra or the veiw
My old man taught me that one when I was a kid. I used to have the trans or clutch out of my '53 about once a month. We used long bolts with the head cut off and a hacksawed slot in the end to use a straight blade screwdriver in to tighten. Good for taking them out as well, gives you a little time to get ready for the weight. Mike
I have those in my tool box . Thy run fron 1/4 to 5/8" and from 2 to 10 " in length. I used them when I worked as a heavy equipment mechanic. very handy. Lee
Nice, I have used shorter ones over the years to get transmissions into place and they work great, as long as the clutch is aligned. Having to do things alone can be a problem sometimes. Getting the body off and on my Model A was always a pain with the engine hoist, my wife hooked me up though with a nice electric hoist and I mounted it to the garage rafters and roof, low weight limit, 800lbs but works great and is a 1 man job. I had to make some to get the trans in while hanging on the hoist. Like trying to shove a wet noodle up a bob cat's ***. I finally got Donnie to help me what a PITA.
There are never an HAMBers around to help here. Seesm that everyone has a life. I still use a floor jack and the missus now that the grandaughter is gone on to bigger n better things. Never the less the idea with the all thread is going into my ****nol for sure.
