Went to the West coast actually San Francisco for a 10 day family vacation. On Tuesday January 8 my 25 year old son and I headed out for our own adventurious day while the ladies stayed with the basics like seeing Alcatraz. The word was that after Rodders Journal offices - a real let down and Brizios which was greatness we were headed to some sleepy beautiful little town called Scotts Valley. After grabbing lunch on a sunny knoll we turned a corner and we were at a descent looking modern 2 story office building with the name Canepa Design on the outside. My son studied design so I thought he was taking me to a design company...Nope. Walked in and blew by the receptionist on the 1st floor and we were both wowed to say the least. Like alot of you all, we have seen some great car collections but these were the cream of the cream. In about a 20,000 sq. ft. perfectly lit gorgeous showroom there were about 30 cars for sale. The first NASCAR Superbird to turn 200mph,two 959 Porsche's, an old super rare restored speedster,XKEs early Vettes, exotic Jags and 1 Deuce roadster. Then we went upstairs to see Bruce Canepas personal collection. The drivers represented were Richard Petty, Steve Mcqueen, Dennis Hulme... so match those up with the cars. There were so many gorgeous awesome cars and then we went out to an observation deck and saw what the mechanics were working on. It look like Canepa Design is the headquarters for vintage racing in the United states . In the garage the mechanics were blessed with every tool known to mankind and the place was spotless. Check out the pictures for more but don't miss this excursion or you will be sorry.
yep - all of us exotic and pre-80s race car nuts know that place well. Take the time to read Bruce Canepa's story. This is the outfit that had Doane Spencer's roadster for sale a while back. Definitely a 'big boys toys' place.
Wow! After reading the "do you live in your shop" thread, I'd take this one in a heartbeat. I could handle looking out my 'living room' window and seeing the view in pic #1 ......
Thanks for posting the video HealeyRick. A few years ago Canepa sold a 32 roadster with a Doane Spencer motor, built by SO CAL (not Doane's personal car now owned by Bruce Myer). To me the car has a fantastic stance. Canepa still has the link with a bunch of pictures. This car has been a big influence in my build, I am a fan of the larger tires both front and rear. WOW!! Thanks for pics, video, links - for us common folk it is all very exciting and very depressing at the same time. think I will take my ride to the crusher now to ease the pain of being on the outside looking in. or use maybe not, just use these cars to inspire more work on what I got.
My son in law & his dad both work there. Really fantastic shop & collection. Well woth anybody in the area making sure they stop in & see it.
I would give my left gonad for a car like this. Any idea what this would have sold for? Not that l am in the market just wondering if l sold every thing l had and my house if l would get close.
