Hopefully there are some of you that know about Desotos as I don't have much knowledge on them. I have a 48 Desoto 4 door sedan. It has been sitting for at least 20 - 30 years. It is an original Texas car allthough I do not have a ***le. Here is my predicament, I dont want it. I dont like the look of the sedans. I have kept it around because I dont have the heart to send it to the crusher. It is in OK shape, it will need trunk pan and some work on the floors as well. The rear fenders are a little banged up also but workable. The grill and all of the trim is still there minus the hood ornament. The only thing missing inside that I can find is the push ****ons for the ****** that are just to the right of the guage cluster. So opinions are welcome, what would you do? Part it out, try to sell it whole, roll it out of the way and forget about it?
Put it up for sale in craigslist. I have seen similar cars for sale as you have described and they run in the $1k-$2k range. There are plenty of folks who would love to have that sedan and have the skills to fix the tin. If you don't love it why mess with it? You can also check in over at: http://mopar.pairserver.com/p15d24ph_forum/index.php?/index/ Lots of love over there. .
This is a 48 sedan they did not come with a push ****on transmission are you thinking 1950's? this is a 48 dash the radio goes to the right.....
isky1843... As 73RR said above, that would be the easiest thing to do to sell the car. And, there are a lotta MoPar fans out there that would love it...even for parts. My question is about this part of your Post: "The only thing missing inside that I can find is the push ****ons for the ****** that are just to the right of the guage cluster." DeSotos DID have FluidDrive in '48...but that was column mounted. ChrysCorp "Push ****ons" didn't reach m*** production till '56. Could they be for the Radio ? NOTE: Just as I Posted this, I saw that Frankie47 had the pic to finalize the question.[/ Jonnie www.legends.thewwbc.net <!-- / message -->
It must be the radio that is missing then. Like I said, I don't know very much about these. I had searched around on the internet a little which was not very helpful. Thats why I thought it was push ****on for the ****** I guess, which is the fluid o matic. Also, it is a flat head 6 motor. The reason I was unsure about selling it is I have no idea what it is worth. I am not by any means trying to get rich off of it but at the same time, don't want to be taken for a fool by selling it for like $300.
Thanks Frankie, I know it is hard to say without pictures but what would be a fair price to ask for this thing? Not only am I not knowledgeable about desotos but all mopars in general. I am really in the dark here, but I was thinking $1500.
Like to help......but no magic ball answers here...I'm one of those gotta see it in person guys. The people who tell others what its worth from an internet description/picture crack me up Ask a grand more than what you think its worth, then after you ****er, both parties will walk away feeling mighty proud of their haggling skills!
I can ***ure you that it won't be crushed. I just dont have it in me to do that even if I don't like the car. I guess I'm going to take some pictures and put up a cl***ified ad. Since I don't really have an idea on the value I will probably put it up for trade for another project or OBO. That would probably suit me better anyways since I would just use the money to buy another project in the end. If anyone is interested look for my ad in the cl***ifieds in a week or so.
