Thanks guys. She started instantly cold without even touching the gas peddle this afternoon after sitting 20 hours. No more thick smoke - kinda stinky and noisy exhaust though with Grandpa's patches and rust through. Plenty of blow-by. Wife and I took her on a 5 or 6 mile cruise - we are at 3 thumps-up and a wave or two now.

Ended at the local muffler shop. The guy does really good and particular work, he's picky right down to what tips he puts on. The system on my COE he did 20 years ago and everything I have needed since. I left the Dart on his lift for FlowMaster 40 series dual exhaust and rectangular shaped tips. He showed me his library containing the bend diagrams for the '62 Dart. Should sound sweet come Monday! :D

Then I will be able to hear what's going on and do some tuning.

    ;)

My thoughts exactly. Growing up I thought Chrysler products in those years were just pain ugly. Fast forward 50 yrs I think theyre the coolest.

    Flowmasters?!?
    Your car, but darn...
As for getting projects into the garage, sink a pipe into the floor in back.
Then get a small pipe that fits inside, and weld a receiver on it. Make a mount for the winch so it mounts like a tow ball in the receiver.
You can then use it on the back of a truck too, and wherever you make another receiver, like the front of the trailer!

Harbor Freight, to match the winch!

Yea it's surprising a lot of grade school kids and up will yell out "ccol car" or something. Ran it to the gas station and post office tonight and when I came out an older hippie looking couple was checking it out. They asked about the disc brake upgrade and said they had 380,000 miles on their '74 Dart !!

Got the FlowMasters on most def glad we went with the original 40 series rather than the quieter delta 40's - rumbles real nice. Idles so rough from uneven compression it sounds like it has a modified cam. Like the boxy tips the muffler shop owner suggested- fits the wagon's shape to a T. ;)

Switched from gas can feed to the tank tonight. Longest drive yet planned tomorrow, 15 miles round trip to work and back.

Drive to work went fine - everyone loved the patina and said they would clear it and save it as is. Took her on the freeway for the first time and she smoked all the way home. Has a miss that I am sure is compression related. Think I burned off that qrt of MMO already and she just plain needs a long block this winter. Parked her next to the wife's MINI for now, so I can work to get the COE running again.

Since she's smoking it'd be a good time to put a 440 in it. :D

Love the wagon!! Great story too!! I'd get the engine taken care of and keep everyrhing else just the way it is!!

  12. sweet wagon - I miss my brother's 63 330 wagon with a 383 commando (canadian). That thing was so smooth and just plain hauled ***! Stopping, not so much.

You already ordered the kit, but here is some good brake info for Mopars in general.

    Enjoy! :D

Been collecting parts for the Dart a bit. Was ordering some parts for the COE so I went ahead and ordered a Mopar electronic distrib for the Dart. These fit the older 318's too I hear from B-Body-Bob and other posts on the HAMB.

While getting some sheet metal brake-formed for the COE, I asked about roll-formed some sheet metal to match the Dart's rear qtr panels. The sheet metal shop said no problemo. $88 for the pair. So that's on the parts list and will take care of the only exterior sheet metal rust thru. Not many repro parts available for a wagon unless the sedans are the same. The front floor need patches too, and the floor pan patches are available repro.

I want a 62 Mopar B Body wagon . I have a 62 plymouth 2 dr hdtp that is nice driving 383 push****on , a wagon to tow that to the strip, and carry the family to the coast would be nice.

Mopar Action magazine website has a cheap and safe way of putting later disc brakes on a 62-71 mopar to get rid of the drums, and single master cylinder. DISC Brake tech. I used 64 plymouth 4 dr floorpan in my 62 back before they made repos. fit like they belonged there.

Hey that's a good looking car. For some reason the wagon looks about 10 times better than the sedans and hardtops, the opposite of most cars. I also notice the tail lights are vertically stacked like the stylists intended, not staggered like the sedans and hardtops (demanded by management).

Those mopar longroofs are incredibly cool. I'd slam it on its nuts an roll it as is forever.
That Falcon on the other hand.....i love it so much! Iknow its an hated generation, but i think they have so much potential. Of course i'd slam that too, but i'd make that one all pretty. Whatever your dad's gonna do with it show it to us once its done.

Here are my Grandparents and me in 1981. They owned the Dodge Dart. I wish we had a pic of the Dart in their driveway from that time.

The '41 Ford truck also came from their back alley, back in the day.

    ;)

I had the '67 version of that Falcon..exact same color and model. I bought it for $700 in 1972 from the original owner..a little old lady. Had 40,000 miles on it when I bought it. It had the 200cid 6 cyl. The only option was the automatic trans. That car got me through 4 years of college. Put 150,000 miles on it before the rust was so bad I had to junk it. Excellent car.

Love the Dodge wagon, too!. Friend of mine had a '62 4 door sedan his grandmother gave him. We had a lot of good times in that car!!

a 64-69 plymouth or dodge rear will fit and get rid of the brake situation that calls for a special puller. I have a correct puller for the drum/hub that I can take a picture of if you are still fighting it.64-69 has timken tapered wheel brgs with a adjuster for end play that is so much easier. 1950s-64 mopar 8 3/4s have to be shimmed to get correct axle endplay.front brakes are a easy to swap to disc by going to Mopar Action mags website where they have the info scienced out

I used AAj disc brake kit for my 62 Newport, a bolt on...really easy, and I was able to keep the original 14 inch wheels...and the owner is really nice!
Kudos on saving your Dodge, and great job!

A '66 Club Coupe. My first car. Somewhere a few lines down the potential future project list.

There's something about the engine compartment of one of those stuffed full of FE that just looks right...

Did some local parts chasing this week - Craigslist find - Guy had a restored '62 advertised and mentioned it had Cordoba seats, so I asked if he had the original split bench with arm rest. Yep! Got that and the "gr***hopper head" steering wheel out of his parts car.... Stripped the seat down the next day.... It's even a 6-way power seat....
