i had my flathead v8 up for sale, i was never going to get it put in the car figured id just let it go and keep the banger and build it... well i had alot of inquires about the engine. no sales. so i decided its getting put in. tonight were yanking the banger and starting fresh... i got on amazon an ordered mike bishops how to build a hot rod....... i was told this has all the answers for doing what i am doing... i wanted to leave the orginal model a axle and mechanical brakes..... in issue 19 of MAG NETO , modifying the model a, they have a coupe that has the early flathead swap like mine... the condition of the car and how its stance is with those style headlights and 35 wire wheels,, thats the most bad ass tratitional rod IMO... love it. so thats what we are shooting for.

Gonna be a fun ride (the build AND the car)! Looking forward to it! Nothing meaner than an AV8 when done right and proper

Keep the banger. It'll save you 2 to 4 grand for your pocket. AV8 are so 2010.

Hi, I think your going to love that car with a flattie in it. I have seen the Bishop-Tardel Av8 and it is well done, and beautiful. The book is great, my copy is well read. Have fun and happy motoring.

  6. Not to be picky but it might save you time in the future. The wheels, if they are 16 inch, are probably 1935. The 1936 used solid rims with a 5 on 10 1/4 bolt pattern. I think I would upgrade the brakes to hydraulic. Aside from the safety factor I would be afraid in case of an accident that a smart lawyer would ask why you increased the horsepower but didn't upgrade the brakes.

FH V8 carb with fuel pressure really open them up. Mine never overheats even when low on water. They normally run cool. With big 85 series rear tires on 16" wires, Im able to drive 65-70mph on the freeway all day.

Replace the Babbit with Brearing if not already done.

H&H in La Crecenta, CA sells intakes & headers, or you could modify yours(put a 94 on top), or make one.

I do turn alot more heads than a FHV8, & this is my first banger.

The Headlight are old rusty ones I had laying around. I hammered straight & spray painted. They had the lights on top but are missing.

Funny thing. I had new headlight bulb retainers, shinny chrome, maybe stainlees, but they didn't match, I used some old rusty ones that matched better. It's like only an 1/8" ring around the light but, you know, it's the little things.

Stock Everything, except for what you see. Fuel Tank is fine, no smell at all, just added an electric fuel pump. I changed to 12v after the first
6v pump went out & I didn't want to wait for a 6v to be ordered. 12v elec fuel pumps are readly availble.
