I won't say that duplex nickel is the only "correct" way to provide a durable decorative plating, but it is nice if it's available. I've only ever seen it used on bumpers from OE's, and only in "late" models; it's not the standard used on the seemingly indestructable plated parts from back in the day that the original poster was reminiscing of. It is a great plating for bumpers, which typically see the most abuse of all decorative chrome plating.

I will say I definitely prefer Hex chrome over Tri any day, for cost to run, durability, and aesthetics.

Josh, thanks for the information. One of the things I learned a long time ago is that you don't have to know everything, you just need to know who to ask.

I have a brand new fully chromed Ford dropped front end that's been sitting in my shop...only heated when I'm out there, and rust is showing up in a few spots. So what's the best solution to mitigate and protect it further? Thanks.
