So i was given a super solid 1963 ford galaxie 4 door for a wedding present. Im really struggling deciding how to build this darn thing (plus my wife says it looks like a gramma car right now). It being a 4 door just screams cruiser and i think it could make a sweet mild custom if done right but im having trouble deciding just what to do. Right now im thinking deep gloss black, shaving all the trim, molding the drip rails, maybe some other custom work on the front and rear. Not real low as i need this thing to drive on the street and run down the highway. Not sure on wheels, and not sure whether white walls would look out of place on this late of car. just looking for any ideas or pictures of photoshop rendering or really anything to help make my mind up on this darn thing. I have looked at a lot of pictures but still haven't found my perfect inspiration.
I love '67 Galaxies, every since my dad's friend bought a beautiful XL hardtop new in '63. His was a good-looking turquois color, like this: Color's kind of a personal choice though.... Looking around the internet, I kinda like the way this guy took off the chrone embossed trim panel between the tail lights...of course could be a 'Custom 300' model that didn't have one anyway..... Hopefully, you have a 4-door hardtop and not a sedan.
excuse me for being dumb but whats the difference. mine does have the door post between front and back doors, does that make it a sedan?
Before you mess with the trim, focus some on roadability! '60's cars like this are soft and mushy with lots of roll and understeer, and the brakes are barely adequate. Think stiffer springs (as part of lowering process too) all around, anti-roll bars, and if there is something available MUCH quicker steering. Bias the suspension changes a bit to the rear to help with understeer, and find some modern bigger radials that don't look ridiculous. Stiffening the suspension, quickening the steering, and upgrading the brakes will make driving much more comfortable and secure, especially when that kid in front of you slams on the huge antilock brakes in his Honda... 1960's handling makes you an obstacle to progress and elderly brakes require you to stay at Defcon 1 at all times so you can cope with a world in which every other car out there has much better stopping ability than you do!
Any 4 door is a sedan, being a 4 door hardtop is an upgrade from having a post, if it were a chevy it would be called a sport sedan. If you need photoshop help you should probably post a picture of it and pay attention to what Bruce is telling you. First make it perform then worry about making it purdy.
