I took the Blower Motor out of my '28. The Engine is great, and the blower is too, but the cooling has always been marginal. And it has gotten worse, over the years. That combined with carb problems ( a pressurised Holley running on the goats piss they sell as Gas these days made things difficult ) Flooding, hard to start when hot, etc. So I pulled the engine before I hurt it with the constant fooding, overheating etc. I'll freshen it up, and use it for my Coupe when I build it. I put in a pretty mild 350. And I tucked in the alt. inside the hoodline ( I'm running an Alt because the engine came with one, and I want to leave my Blower Motor as complete as possible, so I left the Gen on it )
So now I didn't have anything sticking out beyond the hood line. I startedc out with mocking up the main design in masking tape. To see where the louvers were going to be, how many, and how much taper I was going to put in the rows.
After that, I rough cut the panels. Put the design on them. And tack welded on some 1/2 X1/2" square tubes.
I got some piano hinges from Master Mc Carr, put them on. ( with some repro Model A parts, I had to modify the front one to fit the '32 grille shell) Then I rolled the top panels to fit the cowl and grille shell.
Now those are some fantastic looking panels,,I like the way the side & hood top panels get large toward the cowl. Great attention to detail. HRP
Looks great. How'd you roll the top section of hood? The louvers would be in the way of using a slip roller. I've got to make my hood soon so I'm going to school on this.
I tackwelded a piece of 3" exhaust pipe to the top of a metal sawhorse. And then I carefully worked the top pieces over that untill I had the right shape, by hand. Its slow and wears you out, but it works... I can take a pic of the sawhorse tomorrow.
