Someone out there asked about Nailhead Power in an early model A.
My Roaster P.U. is a 28 AR model, powered by a 401 Buick Nailhaed,
backed up to a T400SP transmission. Attached is a picture of the
    build to date.

What are you running for steering? I can't tell. I can see with mine this is going to be an issue.

I'm using a Vega box. The newer one with needle bearings
and not bushings. It fits just right and the cross linkage
    clears the pan etc.

Saginaw 525 box, a little heavier duty than a Vega box and easily sourced locally. Lots of clearance under the engine running a 66 Riv pan. Steering shaft snakes under the motor mount on frame and clears everything. The first link in the steering shaft is out of a Astro van, a double U-joint, vibration absorber and slip joint combined. Running Sanderson block huggers and had to dish the collector that bolts onto the header to clear steering.

To get everything to clear, HAD TO OFFSET the engine 1/2" to passenger side.

Sorry for very poor photos, but only ones I have of this area. This was in early mock up but shows components in actual position. Second shot is along frame showing steering box and motor mount.

Yeah, my challange is going to be getting around the starter, between the pedals and slave cylinder and to the column. I'll make it work.

Been running my 401 powered A for 6 yrs, with no problems at all.
Put the VW bus steering box in mine, so I could run the nostalgic draglink.
    Keep us posted!!!

31 plymouth is like model a steering box it works just fine. I moved the box and collumn over into the frame about 3 inches and used a manifold off a 58 buick cause they sweep up and exit towards front of motor. Look in my pics to see it. No vega box, no mini starters, no prob. Worth a shot, you think the model a frame is narrower than mine?

Sure would like to see some more tech on this thread.
Still tryin to squeeze 401 in with original firewall & 32 rails. Lookin hopeful, as long as radiator doesn't get too foreward, its tight.

Original firewall in a 30 coupe. Using a replica of a Model A frame with rad in original position and original hood. Mechanical fan. Reversed firewall and about a 4" recess to clear. Engine off-set 1/2" to clear steering box. Snug every-where.
