Does anyone know if the early Ford tapered and keyed steering column shaft is the same as what they use in the marine industry for boats? Thanks
OK, thanks guys. I've been searching the Internet for steering wheels, and there are literally hundreds of early boat wheels that are not only very unusual, but downright beautiful.
I'm running a 47 Kainer speedboat wheel in my 29 closed cab pickup with a 47 ford shaft. The fit is exact.
Many old Ford boxes were made by Gemmer, and so were many old boat steering boxes. That's why they fit.
Thanks again for the info. It's interesting that the marine industry started with this tapered and keyed shaft, and hasn't changed it in well over 60 years!
