Folks Of Interest My parent's are headed home... in a Roadmaster.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by bodi, Jan 22, 2013.

  1. Congrats, all the way around!

  2. Got a call from the folks this morning at 11am local time. They had made it home at 9am Pacific. They had seen some weather reports, and decided to avoid Snoqualmie. They made it to Pendleton last night around 10, and decided to cut across to Portland. Sounds like a good thing they made it when they did, and avoided Snoqualmie. I guess they were in snow even down in the river valley. They had some funny tales of driving down the highway with blankets on them, and vacuum powered wipers that moved so slow they got froze to the windshield. Sounds like the car did them well though.

They got on this morning, and read this thread. My Mom wanted to p*** along a big thank you for all of the well wishes. Thanks to all of you for your offers, and being on standby should something go wrong. THANK YOU. You folks impressed her. Like I said, cl*** acts.

Hopefully she'll be getting me some of the photos they took along the way, and I can give this one last quick update.

So, for now, 1525 miles in a 61 year old car in the dead of winter on their 30th anniversary. What a damn fine son to sign them up for such an adventure!:D

Looks like a wonderful trip and for some good people. Glad they can enjoy some time together in a cl***ic Buick.

You've got some hip parents. Most today won't sit in a seat that don't have an *** warmer.

Glad to see that they made it home ok. Going over Cabbage was probably enough of a thrill ride and then going through the gorge to boot.

That's a great story. Sat here with a smile the whole time I was reading it.

Glad to hear the trip was fairly eneventful. Can't help but wonder what a beast like that averages for gas mileage.

Sure looks like a nice 4 hole Riviera. There are some very nice extra features on the '52s and I would love to have them combined with the front of a '50.

  12. Dad said 12mpg, with a big tail wind.... 10 was pretty common. First 4v on a Buick, and it uses it.

If there's ever a time to get stranded in the desert, this is the time of year for it... Cool car!

Damn Bodi, I've been so out of it this week that I didn't realize you started a thread on their journey. Love your parents man, way good folks. And your dad looks at that big 'ol Bu with a certain gleem in his eyes. Sure wish the last couple of weeks of flu/asthma hadn't happened while they were around 'cause I sure would have liked to spend some time with them around. I didn't doubt the Buick getting them home safe for a minute.

Different subject, I was down at Nick's at lunch for a few minutes to help sort some cabriolet goodness, and he walks me out back and said "look what Dave wants to sell". He then unrolls a car cover off of a 1950 Roadmaster convert... I got that gleem in my eye!

I'm glad they avoided Snoqualmie. I hit snow up there in '06 going over the p*** in the Plymouth, in September! We desert folk don't know things like the bridges freeze first!

Great story, glad to hear about a cool trip.
I remember in 1964 when I got out of the Air Force, the nightmare of a road trip that followed. From Sacramento to North Carolina in a '54 Chevy with a Chrysler Hemi, which had been finished (term used loosely) about two weeks.
Well it ended in Texas with a hole in number three cylinder, but it was a new experience every day. it seems a lot funnier now than it was then.
But, what the hell, we survived, so it was OK.

  16. Don't tell me things like this.....^:D I'd heard that there was a 50 Convertible for sale, don't know anything else about it though. I actually prefer the swept trunkline. Combining the 49-50 rear with the fine tooth 54 front would be my ultimate custom, unless we get in to the Sedanettes....

  17. That's awesome, thanks for sharing. There's just something about a cobbled together road trip. There are very few cool stories to be told about the time someone drove their new Camry anywhere.

Just don't be searching my threads to find the ad for the '50 and you'll be fine, Bodi! Everyone else, please search my threads for the sale ad for the '50. I did mention it's a Roadmaster convertible didn't I?

Glad the folks made it home ok. That is one sweet mo-chine!
