Heres some pics i have, Ray DAngelo who built my willys truck sent me this dvd and pics a few months back,Labeled S&S speed Shop Islip Drags 10/29/61, he also sent one to the guy who ran S&S Speed Shop or his son, not sure on all the details, he said they are still in buisness, and thats were they got the parts to build my willys gasser truck in the early 1960s. enjoy there old and not to clear maybe you recognize someones car.
Cool pix, 1961 I was barely riding a bicycle though. If you were never to Islip, you don't know how crazy the drags were there. They started out in the pits at the back gate (by the pit shack visible in the photos), ran across the back of the pits, through the other gate and wound up behind the front-stretch grandstand. Bob
Great Pictures! I raced at Islip and Westhampton on LI. Islip was crazy fun. Thanks for the memories. Art
I also raced at Islip mianly and Hampton a couple of times in C/G with a 57 Blue Chevy with the # 69 on the Door in 1963 &1964. My friend raced at Islip with a 55 primed Chevy with the # 11 on it. Do you remember either of these cars or have any photos?
My dad use to do alot of the towing and wrecker service for islip speedway years and years ago. Think it was called Lawrence wrecking service or Lawrence's salvage and towing... something like that
