Looking at and lusting over the Winters quick change nostalgia axle sold by Speedway motors.

Thinking I may break down and pull the trigger on one if I can get the overtime needed to fund one. :)

Anyone have any experience with them ? Are they a good axle for the street ?

Any positives ? (Besides being super cool) Any negatives ?

Call Winters direct to buy it. I did and saved about $500

I've had a bad experience with winters. They are impossible to deal with if you have a problem.

Noisy is one thing, but the noise can be too much at some point. For instance a howl that drowns out the exhaust :D

I've run helical gears instead of straight cuts and they are quiet enough now that I don't even notice it. It took a few hundred miles before I stopped hearing it.

  7. I run the V8 Winters, and they area a Heavy Duty unit with posi traction and traditional styling. The helical gears are great if you get tired of the whine from the straight cut gears.

I have one in my 32 5W and I'm here to tell you, it's loud. Louder than the Halibrand champ I had in a 34 coupe. Like the man said, it's a Hot Rod,what did you expect.
I get odd looks from people on the street as I go by as if to say "That cars got something wrong with it making that noise". Yah - it's cool!

Sorry, I forgot to mention I haven't run mine yet, still under construction. I do know they sell a lot of rear ends especially to the racers. Must be pretty durable.
