Dickie Reese Midget Racing Legend

Discussion in 'New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!' started by reese3971@comcast.net, Jan 27, 2013.

  1. Hello Members , I'm the son of a former California midget race car driver Dickie Reese. My father owned and operated a string of muffler shops in the SF bay area known as Allied Muffler . He also started Allied Manufacturing with featured the Allied Blue Streak Glasspac mufflers we all grew up with . My father is still around living in Oregon but suffers from dementia these days . I have all of his racing history mementos and hope to catalog and reproduce photos and articles to share with those interested . I myself am interested in trading my 1952 Harley Davidson Panhead for a running Ford coupe or roadster . I have owned this bike for about 35 years and have many boxes of parts and accessories to go with . Please feel free to contact me anytime about either subjects . Regards Dickie Reese Jr.

Hi there Dickie Jr, welcome to the HAMB.
Looking forward to seeing some pics of your dad's racing career, etc.
Now that you've introduced yourself, head on over to the Classifieds Page and post that you're looking for a coupe or roadster and what you want to trade for it over there (as this is just the Intros page and not many people looking to seel or buy will look on here)
    Anyway, cheers.

  3. Welcome, nice scoot.

    Welcome Dickie,
I met your Dad when we were Vintage Racing at tracks here in Oregon, he was "Hell On Wheels" in the "Bennett Offy", always put on a great show! Didn't he help out John Lawson with his cars? It will be interesting for you to share his racing career with us, I am only 25 mi west of Portland, maybe we can talk one of these days.

  6. Hey welcome and best regards to Dad. I would be curious if you have any photos of Balboa Stadium (San Diego) 50s or early 60s. By the way, we have one of your dad's "Muffler Man" statues (slightly modified into a cowboy!) at our rodeo grounds here in Mendocino (CA) county.

I knew your dad from his racing with my dad, later on he helped my dad start his muffler shop. I also worked for your dad (23rd and Mcdonald) when I was drafted and in later years I kept telling him he owed me my job back when I came home from veitnam. Jim Soares Petaluma Speedway

Welcome aboard. As I hope you have already discovered, there is a midget discussion board on here as well as a sprint car board. They are both great. I have several midgets and/or projects. Our daughter moved to Portland from Chicago two years ago and I love the road trips out from Wisconsin. I normally bring something out on my trailer (sprint....midget....Indian....Harley....WWII aircraft) and last year came home with a rail frame midget.....two Elto outboard motors.....a T roadster/speedster.
Would love to see anything midget you have in memorabilia. How wonderful to have your father be a part of that era and still have a remnants of his racing career......and my he find whatever peace and joy he can under his current circumstances. If you want to contact me, I just sold one of my old rail frame midgets to a Harley restorer in Iowa .....great guy.....I could let him know about your Harley.

  9. Thanks to all that have responded , my dad is alive and well living close by me in Hillsboro Or. I do hope to get time to go through the history and pictures ( oh so many pictures!!!) and share soon .I have all of his mementos in my possession and hope to copy pics and catalog history if I can . Whats sad is Dickie can't help much because of memory loss but he is pretty healthy and happy despite this issue .
