  7. John, the car looks amazing. The fab work and concept is just stunning. I studied the car for quite a while today. The detail work is unbelievable. I hope the judges appreciate what they are seeing. Good luck!!

Pictures don't do this car justice. You've got to see it in person, it just has a presence that's hard to describe.
    Really really nice!

Even though you guys didn't get ABMR you were still a favorite of mine. Really looking forward to seeing some more feature-type photos of this car close up, and seeing it being used in anger.

Ditto. I was blown away by this car. Everywhere you looked was a small detail that was fresh and original. The use of finishes, the quality of the work was just outstanding. I kept going back to look at it time after time. Not to take anything away from Mumfords car, but this car took building and design to a whole new level.

As a car show judge, I think it must have been EXTREMELY close between Mumford's car and the Woodward Roadster. Technically I think T.W.R. was far more involved and "designed", but GNRS did recently start taking "beauty" into account when judging. Personally I think TWR is more beautiful because I know what went into it, but I can see how someone would find Mumford's car easier to understand. "Beauty" usually fits into what's expected. That's not to take away from Mumford's car. I think any of us would kill to own either.

The bottom line, for me, is that both cars were executed to perfection and it came down to understandability. Being an artist I know all too well that "normal" people usually just don't understand truly inspired design. Just my opinion.

Giant kudos to both parties for raising the bar through the stratosphere when it comes to traditional builds.

Kirk, you just nailed my thoughts on the deal completely. I really was pulling for the Woodward car 'cause it is neater than neat, but after seeing Mumfords car I knew if a traditional car was to win, that was it. Both cars are Jewels, period. I was much more attracted to the Woodward car because of it's simple yet perfected components, and clever details and design. Nothing exotic there, just super refined and perfected. Unfortunately, if a judge isn't absolutely intimate with early Ford stuff they might not know HOW refined and perfected. But Damn, Mumford's car just presented soooooo well just sitting there. Congrats guys! That had to be a super hard judging decision. I'm just thrilled that an honest to goodness traditional car with no quotation marks or even annoying finger quotes won!

Damn, this is one really beautiful, well done hot rod. It is obvious a lot of hard work and skill went into it's build.

Please do not take the following comment wrong. When I looked at the pictures before the show the one thing that ran through my mind was that black cars, while gorgeous, sometimes get overlooked at trophy time because brighter colors jump out at the judges more. (Just like red cars are more obvious to a cop running radar.)

I certainly am not saying any other color on this car would have been as good, in fact it NEEDED to be black, but just stating an opinion of why some colors win more than others. There have been notable exceptions, but the cars that win at trophy time are usually reds or other colors that jump out at you.

Again, please do not read this as a negative comment about this car, I love it and it is just the way it needs to be. I am just stating an observation about the role colors play into the decisions people make.

    Don

John it had to be close. Only two cars really should have won yours or the Mumford T. But yours should have got it. The T looked like any other track T just alot more money spent on it. Im looking forward to seeing yours in person!
