I tried a search, but didn't find any mention here on how far you leaned back the windshield. Any way to make a guess now on the final result in degrees? It looks great as does the color. Gary
The post is laid back 24 deg. off the beltline, on the rear of the posts. In other words, I set an adjustable square on the rear of the post and referenced against the beltline. There was no reason for this angle, and to be honest, I didn't know what it was until I checked it. It just looked right and I just made both sides the same with a cardboard template. We didn't have a decent windshield frame for the car and in keeping with the budget the "blind" posts were the answer. I think they still look traditional and very smooth! I love the color too. It is much darker in person but still very cool. I have a total hot nut for Jim Inglese "Full House" and this car embodies a bit of that one. I look at these as early '60's date rods. Something you could use to take the hotties to the drive in and a car they'd actually get into with you. Can't wait to get it off the stands and back to ride height.
Thanx, Koz... nothing wrong with some string or tape and the old MK-I eyeball in work like this. Gary
paint looks great koz! glad to see it coming together. also glad to hear your getting fryguy's buick. i've been waiting awhile to see that one move along. that is already a unique looking custom. (also a little different style car than i'm used to seeing you build.)anyway, glad to hear buisness is doing well for you, good work should be rewarded!
Thanks JerseyMike! I wish I could get some pics of the right color up. Like a lot of print stuff the color changes dramatically when published. The car is much darker than it appears. I'm really excited about Fryguys Buick as well. It's a sweet custom and as I understand John did a great job on the metal work, it just needs the finish work done. (My favorite job, somebody else did all the hard work!). Also I have Kess's '34 in the shop which is also going to be a sweet ride. I can't wait to see these on the 'boards in Wildwood this Fall. This years road contingent is going to be huge.
Final ***embly! You can't believe how cool this car looks in person. The pics do it no justice. Hard to shoot anything in the shop that's worth looking at but a teaser for when it goes out in a day or two. Hoping for a Wednesday inspection.
12 Hours of bustin my balls (and it still doesn't suit me!), to get to the point of blocking primer. Tomorrow color and the last of the cosmetics will be done.
following closely as I'm getting ready for the same build, little more purple though. Awesome job, SUBSCRIBED!
Thanks for the kind words guys! This Forum is the source of much inspiration. I'm also working on Kess's '34 and a couple of Model "A"s that are pretty neat. The concept here was to build a car that was not only traditional but reliable and economical as well. Henry is going to drive the wheels off of this and it will be on the 'boards at Spring Wildwood as well as the Fall meet there. The car looks like the early 1960's "date rod" that it was planned for. No Ridler winner, we wanted it to look like they did back then. So many cars are over restored now that I think a little rough edges is pretty cool. I love to look at absolutly perfect cars but I wouldn't want to hop in and drive 150 mi. to the shore in them and then let 'em set outside Kelly's bar for the evening. Like most cars, this one will go through a little development as time goes on. Henry will be getting a decent grill and the Quad will get swapped out for a set of 'trips along with some more appropriate engine glitter etc. as funds allow. The car is planned for a black rag over the aluminum top which is just painted with texture paint for the moment, and a black tuck and roll on the gut. Damn I wish I had this car in high school! I'll post up some pics as soon as it's out of the shop, (when the snow melts)!
Ain't no rocket science Bro.! With a little patience and some help from the old timers on here anything is possible. If you get stuck my # is in my HAMB-O-Dex and you can usually talk through any snags you might have. Nothing makes me happier than another rod on the street where they belong.
Some dumnuts I know didn't match the pearl and the appearance was way off. So I had the rare privelidge of blocking all the louvers again and reshooting it!
That top REALLY needs the aforementioned off-white covering. Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
I agree but it's Henry's car and he likes the black top. I'm throwing the off white rag on my roadster though. Nothing says 1960 louder than a Fawn White rag! I've been folowing your build as well. Very cool!
