I ran more than one 283 bored way out with 327 heads, a duntov 30/30 cam and a 600 holley on top and just shredded tires all day long. Keep the flywheel weight real low and when you blip the throttle it will scare people how fast it will rev up.

Making some assumptions about flat top pistons, headgasket thickness, 4 valve reliefs, and 70cc combustion chambers, I get 8.7:1 comp ratio. It's low but will run on 87 octane and torque will be low.

Well, all of this was very enlightening.............I realize now that I have a 289CI motor.

That the block is a 283CI with a shorter stroke than the 327CI motor.
That I have an intake and carburetor from a 1968 327CI 275HP motor.
That the heads are a 1969 327CI 200-210HP; with 70CC chambers and "flat top" pistons with 1.72/1.50 valves.
It will NOT be raced so as far as super power, it is a mute issue.
I do have a pair of 202 heads with Crane roller rockers and stainless steel valves that I purchased a couple of years ago.............for a rainy day.
NOT knowing what was done to the heads nor what duration cam I have I guess the HP is a guessing game.
I will be running a 1958 Corvette dual point, vacuum distributor which I will convert to a Petronix electrical system.

My guess is that I will have a good 230HP motor....................

Any suggestions/ideas glad to hear them.....................

Right now I'm trying to decide what mufflers to purchase. I want it throaty by NOT too loud. The problem, as you may all be aware, is lack of room in the model A.
I will definitely be using ROUND mufflers and have a few in mind.

Again, thanks a bunch for all the help. Learning something everyday.

    Mike

martymdj - If, go with the modern muffler with a throaty sound, it'll sound to new for an older car. Go with Smitty's or Cherry Bombs or a nice generic glasspack muffler. :D
