I took the stock hood ornament off my 50 coupe and put a bullnose piece on with the stock moulding down the center of the hood. Then I see a picture of a Ford with a one piece moulding that takes the place of the bullnose and the the stock piece. I asked around, one guy says he thinks it might be a Cadillac hood trim piece another guy says he thinks it is an old J C Whitney piece. Any ideas? Thanks
I think there may be two explanations for the one-piece molding. First, I have seen old ads for a full-length bullnose made by Cal Custom back in the early '50s. I have never seen the real part, but I have seen the ad. Second, I'm told that a front fender trim strip from a '50 Chevy makes a great bullnose for a shoebox! Again, never seen it done, but I'm told it works. You may know that the short aftermarket bullnoses were made in two styles: a wide one, with a footprint exactly like the stock '49 and '50 hood ornaments, and a narrow one which is the same width as the long hood trim, right down to a sharp point at the front. I have seen one of these in recent years. I, too, would be interested in acquiring either one of the long ones or the short, narrow ones.
My dad's 51 is like that. I had asked him one time what it was from. he didn't remember, he said he went to the junkyard and pulled several pieces of trim from different cars, took them home, and picked the one that worked. He thought it was from a quarter panel...
I do not have their catalog and could not find it on the online catalog. If you figure it out please post on here would ya. thanks Ted
