I am working on a 1934 Ford 5 window coupe and need some help on the placement of the body to frame gusset. The gusset fits between the frame, body and gas tank cover. The frame horns have been slightly modified so I do not have the holes in the frame to serve as a guide. I would appreciate any pictures showing the gussets installed. Thanks for your help.
Is this the 'gusset' you are asking about? This picture is from a '34 5-window coupe, original body on its original frame. I don't think the frame rails have been modified in this area except for boxing, but a missing bolt hole (see below) makes me wonder. The lower bolts go through the gusset plate then the frame and are held by nuts inside the frame rail. You can see a third hole along the lower edge of the gusset plate, toward the front (left in photo), that is not being used. There is no corresponding hole in the frame rail, which makes me wonder if the frame rails have been modified before I got it. When I blow the car apart for final paint, I will probably drill the frame rail and add this bolt. The two rear bolts (upper right in photo) go through the fender, through the gas tank cover, and then into captive nuts on the gusset plate. The two forward bolts (upper left in photo) go through the wheel well into captive nuts on the gusset plate.
Yes....Thanks for the picture. I see that your gusset has a thumbnail cutout but no bolt in the frame. I have the same cutout but no hole in the frame. I would like to ask one more favor. Could you send a picture showing the end of the frame. My frame has had a little cutoff. Thanks. Are you planning on coming to the swap meet in Nashville this weekend?
From the inside of the rail you see the two nuts for the lower edge of the gusset plate. The nut on the top of the rail is for a gas tank mounting bolt (original hole). On the bottom of the rail is a tailpipe hanger (not original). From the outside of the rail you see an oval reinforcing plate for the rear spreader bar (all original) and the gusset plate. The hose toward the front is for a gas tank vent (not original). Hope this shows you what you need to know. Sorry it took so long to get these posted.
Thanks a million. I am not missing as much of the frame as I thought. Thanks again for the pictures and your time.
