Shades of the Past Deuce Gathering???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by seadog, Jan 30, 2013.

  1. 'Got my flyer today for this year's Shades of the Past Show in Pigeon Forge, TN.

Says the Deuce Gathering has been discontinued. That's the main reason I go to this show. Anybody know why the Southeast Deuce Club decided to discontinue this?

  2. Pigeon Forge had gotten very picky on their new rules and regs. You can no longer save spots with chairs for car and viewing over night now and cars can sit there only so long after the car show is over or they will be towed.Dont get me wrong i live in Sevierville and take my car to the shows but some places just dont want to put up with the new hassels and traffic.

I was a faithful attendee for 30 years. I went to every one. I went thru the Grand Run takeover, The move to the Hotel accross from Ruby Tuesday, then at the outdoor show arena, over to the island, down to the bottom and then on to Dollywood. The price increases did not stop me either. NOW ... it is 50 dollars to pre-register and NO DEUCE SHOW !!

The wife and I will just take our $$$ and go some where we have not yet gone to.

The traffic is terrible, the room rates have gotten out of hand and the crowds have changed. It has been a mostly Camaro/Mustang/Chevelle fest lately any way.

The only reason I kept attending was The DEUCE gathering and to see old friends. Most of my old friends have a Deuce also ... and they will be staying HOME too.

So ... no reason to GO now :(

The flyer states that the Deuce club decided to QUIT ...
After 30 years, I guess they just got tired. Wayne Oneal was the main guy in the Deuces ...

Maybe there were just too many Deuce shells on all those poser cars. :)

  5. I agree with Tom & Randy,,I really enjoyed the Deuce show in conjunction with the Shades of the Past show and Like Randy said I have attended every one and have participated in both for many years.

My knee jerk reaction is to say I wont be attending this year,I always thought the Southeast Deuces and the Shades of the Past clubs had a good relationship. HRP

  6. Deuce Roadster and Hotrodprimer. You need to load up and come to the deuce reunion in Bastrop, Tx.

  7. I sent Don Hutsel a member of The Shades of the Past a E-mail after reading Toms post and ask him what happened?

    This is his response,,

Danny ,bottom line...they were a small club & some members have passed away...the remaining few chose to discontinue their participation in our show due to the difficulty of having enough members to cover. We hate it but understand.

At least we know what happened. HRP

Go to Emerald Coast Cruisin in Panama City Beach, FL the first week in November. Great seafood, worlds best beaches, $10,000 cash give away, entertainment, reasonable hotels and great cruising.

Is it wrong that I could hear Randy's voice in my head when I read that. I cut Pigeon Forge out 10 or 12 years ago and haven't missed it.

Well, at least we DEUCE owners still have the ALL DEUCES RUN to Blowing Rock NC. :)

It will be the first Saturday in June 2013.
This was a 2012 photo of the run ...

Well that settles that. We were planning to go to the shades this year mostly because of the Deuce gathering, Not now.

  12. Maybe the time has come for another group to take up the task of organizing the Deuce gathering. I'm sure that the members of "Shades" would be receptive to keeping it alive with some space set aside and a bit of promotion. After all it's been a big part of the event for so many years, it would be a shame to see it go away. If someone (or a group) could secure a small amount of sponsorship, seems like it could continue. Just my thoughts. Good luck if anyone choses to pursue it.

That's a shame. Unless you are behind the scenes you have no idea how much it takes to put on a show like this. My sport coupe was in it a couple of times (even made the magazine coverage one year):D except they labeled it as a cabriolet. I probably will never return.

If you guys aren't worried about a bit of a drive, try Deuce Days in Victoria B.C. Friday there is usually a tour somewhere on the island. Saturday, 700 or so deuces attend a gathering at Bear Mountain golf club where they are all parked on the first fairway,. and Sunday is the big show at the inner harbour of Victoria. Just a beautiful spot.
I've done it twice and it's a great time

The new location just doesn't do it for me.

I didn't go last year, it was the first time that I did not attend in MANY years.

If all you guys upset about there not being a deuce gathering went ahead and attended...THERE WOULD BE A DEUCE GATHERING!:p:p:p

Just kidding I have no idea what that is. But seriously you could all go and meet up and drive in together yeah?

  18. 2959 miles one way is a bit much when you have to be back at work on the following Monday.

We would have to average 600 miles a day for 5 days, each way!

Possibly after we both retire,,The Shades has always been a weekend get away for us. HRP

The wife and I had actually planned to go in 2011 ... but all the fires in Texas close to the event location kept us from going. Maybe next year ... we are retired :D

This thread has abused the word "DEUCE" entirely too much hahaha! Don't people call them 32's anymore? :D

Well at least they got the spelling right. HA! I've said it before and I always get in trouble for it but, " If you don't have a deuce you don't have shit and if its not steel it's not real." Just my humble opinion. I could be wrong , but I'm not.

Sounds like the fate of NSRA. I hate to read things like this, but it still makes me wonder if they would have welcomed a younger group of guys in or did more to work with the younger hotrodders would this be the fate? How do we keep events like this from dying with it's members? Just a thought and I could be totally off based but thats my .02
