Got this wheel and hub for my A pickup. It looks like a Superior 500 but there are no markings. There is a Hellings & Stellings decal on the wheel but I wasn't aware they made wheels so I figured someone just stuck it on there.

It's the hub and tin cover that goes over the column that I've never seen. Anyone ever seen one like this?

  2. Grant adapter. All those early wheels had to use one to fit whatever car the wheel was going on. You can still buy the adapters from Grant.

If you notice the lower bell is wider than the steering shaft. and the adapter looks like it is inside the lower bell. dont look like any Grant I ever saw.Looks home made, I had a friend that took sauce pans drilled them polish them and made air cleaners for dirt track Kmodel harleys flattrackers. Grant no longer makes chrome adapters.

The chrome piece is the part that adapted the wheel to different sized turn signal housings for a finished look. This looks like a mix match of parts that were close but did not match. The black part looks odd to me. No turn signal provision and it does not fit the tube well enough.

Well what other options are there for a superior wheel. I have a column tube from a 60 f100 with a bell on the top that will be closer size to the chrome piece. I could use that. I will take some better pics tonite, they were made for each other. It's not cobbled together, it's made to fit the hub.

Lots for an old hotrodder with imagination. Old hot rods were not just kit cars. We did not all just buy kits we made stuff. It's possible that the black portion was never a car part at all. It could be a kitchen bowl adapted to a new purpose. The factory wheel adapter parts fit really well for their intended column. Yours do not. JMHO

I didn't buy a kit either. These are old parts. This was an old hot rod built long ago. Thanks for your input.

Your wheel looks like an Ansen to me ,could also be a Pip brand. Its not a Covico or a Grant.

That is what makes me think it was not a kit. I love it!

Yeah me too, it's kind of funky, I think I'm going to run it as is.
