Seems like while there is no shortage of hot rods here, it seems to me that customs are becoming more popular. Are we in for a renaissance of what so far (on the HAMB), have been tasteful customs?
Yes. If I can help it. ### Kustom Falcon Build Thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=734282
Just from purely a traditional style perspective, I think, as the the shortage of 20-30 steel gets deeper, money is being spent on the cheaper and more available big body vehicles. I think R** R**s burned out the people on the edge of the scene. Real quality hot rods are still very pricey to "dabble" in (if you are doing it right), while customs can be easier to work on in stages and still drive. Guys like Rik Hoving are doing us all a great favor in cataloging the past and inspiring the m***es as to how valuable a real well done custom car can be. Like many of us that have been deep into traditional style since a younger age, I think the quality is maturing along with us. Everything goes in cycles of of course, but I see Customs and Kustoms regaining steam. My opinion of course.
I've noticed that too.. I think the guys (including myself) that had the satin and primered in the works Customs..are now finally painting and finishing them. Several of my friends are now getting ready for paint too.. Kind of nice to see a little change.. I still love the clean "in the works" primered and satin cars too.. but seems like the beat up..thrown together cars are slowly fading away..
I love'em all. I am trying to finish a mild custom, but at the same time hard to beat a bad *** hotrod.
My Buick is still in primer with flames 11 years later... and it's hard to change it. I earned the "patina". But my tastes have changes. Might be time to cl*** it up.
I think inside the traditional scene they definitely are on the rise. I would argue that they only slightly are in the mainstream. Look at as a positive. At least Twenties won't be on everything! But I feel ya on the prices. Everything is getting older and rarer.
It was more or less a joke It kind of bummed me out when I saw '55 Merc wagon taillights at the last swap I went to for $1,700 and I had to walk away
