cheap shipping suggestion

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by scotty t, Jan 29, 2013.

  1. I've got a shipping suggestion. Fastenal.

    http://www.fastenal.com/web/locations.ex

i am in no way affiliated with them, but i have used them several times both shipping and receiving packages. i know they have been mentioned here before but i don't believe there is a thread about it. they have a **** load of locations across the country. if there is any industry near you there is probably a fastenal store. just fire up your googletron and look it up. the service is called "3PL". i shipped a 409 complete on a pallet from the east coast to indiana for $125.

Yeah, I've heard about that. Do they have a website with shipping info (I didn't see anything on the above site) or do you have to go into the store? I'm gonna be shipping some parts soon, I'll have to check them out!

  6. just call and ask for their "3pl" service. it's new so a lot of stores don't know much about it. that link was just for the store locator.

I found it on that website. You have to fill out a form to get a quote.

Yes....they are shipping a flathead for me. The guy is dropping it off tomorrow and they said it should be here by noon on monday. Thats half as much as the gas would cost me to drive there and back. I couldn't get it delivered to my town because the local one doesn't have a fork lift. So its going to the next closest one which is 20 miles away.

  12. Damn!

That's a smokin' good deal. Be sure you keep us up to speed on the whole ordeal.

If this goes fairly seamless, Fastenal might just be the new (old) name in the shipping business.

They have thier own trucks and I guess they figure the trucks are doing the runs anyway so might as well haul some freight for other people when they have the extra room. I use to use Greyhound bus to ship car parts but I got a quote yesterday to ship a Model T rear spring from San Antonio to Houston and it was $55. Sooo.....won't be doing that anymore....and besides...they wouldn't ship something like a motor anyway.
The Fastenal price may be negotiable also. When the guy replied with my quote on the motor from Illinois I couldn't reply for several hours because I got tied up at work. He sent another email and asked if $100 seemed fair for the 600lbs. So....I might have been able to get it cheaper....I was just happy to get it that cheap. If I start using them more I may try to get a little better deal if its a long distance. This opens up a lot more opportunities for moving heavy/large stuff around that I've had to p*** on before.

My pallet was dropped off today....the shipper said they didn't have a clue what to do...but we educated them and they called the main office and now everythings good. Now just have to wait until Monday and see if it shows up.

    Thanks for your post!
Some of us have lives outside of the HAMB and don't see every single previous post.
I have a pair of heavy flathead "wet" boat exhaust manifolds I am planning to
    sell and ship.
The link you posted shows a Fastenal location just 5 miles from me!
I will definitely check with them.

My pallet didn't get picked up Sunday as planned because the truck was full. Looks like it will get here Wed. though. I also just got a new quote to ship a Model A motor from Amarillo to here and it was $65.

Is it store location to store location or will they deliver to a home or business address.
Will they pick up from a home or business?

Thanks for the information, sounds like a great deal if you are not in a hurry. I will have to try it out, I have a store a couple of miles away.

This is cool info. It makes me think that a guy that was needing some spare money could run an add and set up shipping for people. Get a quote, then add 30% or whatever the market will bear and pick up the frt. Be sure to have a third party release of liability signed when you pick up the goods and check!

I always use UPS, I ship out from our parts dept. at work. Works fine for me, I hate even going to our Fastenal, I have more bolts in my garage then they have in the store here.

  29. Not everyone has that perk.

    You offering!
