Well gents I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello to all of the fellow board members. Just a little bit about me. I live in VA and am currently contracting in Iraq. I have been into Hot Rods of all kinds since I was a kid. There is nothing like a sweet cl***ic done right. I am joining the HAMB hoping to meet new people, learn a lot and share my enthusiasm of hot rodding. How did I end up here? I'll give the short. A few friends of mine that I work with came up with a hair brained scheme to take 3 vehicles and do a road trip. One of the guys already has a 66' t-bird waiting for him to get running and driving in Idaho. So a search began for 2 more vehicles in the area. We found 2 Ford F100 unibodie long beds a 61 and a 62 on Craigslist in Oregon running for 1600. So we bought them and are having them shipped to Idaho. Once we return in July of this year 2013 we will begin performing repairs and modifications to make them safe and drivable. We have set a one week time frame for the repairs and proper testing. After all is said and done we hit the road for a 2200 mile road trip to Ohio. Which we are sure to have some great adventures to share along the way.
Welcome from the middle of Ohio . This place is a valuable tool full of experience and opinions . Please use it wisely & Enjoy the ride !
We were sitting around one day after watching the Top Gear UK Florida road trip and said "We can do that" and it snow balled from there. The reason for starting in Idaho is because a friend already has his T bird there and we were able to pick the trucks up close to the starting point. The reason for going to Ohio is because the guy with the T-bird lives there and has a shop there that he owns. So it just made the whole thing fall into place as prior to that point we hadn't decided where we wanted to start from and end at. We plan on taking U.S. 30 E as far as I know.
What was once the "Maxton Mile" (E.C.T.A. measured mile, timed accelleration) event is now held in Ohio. There is a meet Jul. 6 & 7. It would be a good culmination to your trip, if you can make it. (Or take your time, and shoot for the end of Sept.) Details are HERE: http://www.ecta-lsr.com/
As it looks right now with our contract coming to an end we wont be on the road until late July. But that definitely sounds like it would be a blast!
