I have read practically every thread looking for what would seem to be an easy question. I need a speedometer cable that connects a Ford Mustang T5 to an aftermarket speedo. Appreciate the help.
It depends on your aftermarket gauge end, but a regular Ford 3 speed or c-4 speedo cable will work or you can use a lokar kit SP-1502U (Black) or SP-1503HT (stainless). You might have to get a adapter from the manufacture of the gauge to make it work and also might want to change the speedo gear in the trans to get the right MPH.
Thanks I clearly need to do more research on which year ****** I have. The speedo output pictured is nothing like the cable I hold. May be later year electronic.
Looks to me that you have half of a broken speed sensor still in the trans, pull it out and you will find the speedometer driven gear held on with a clip. The bottom fitting is a standard Ford with a clip on gear that is crimped on the end of the speedometer housing, if you are using an after market speedometer the nut on the speedo end is 5/8-18. If you need a cable and housing made give me a length and what speedometer you are using and we can make one up for you. Or get one from a 1968 or older Ford car or truck that is the right length. Hope this helps.
Helpful post. I am or will be facing a similar situation although going from a T-5 to a mid 60's Dodge speedometer. - EM
