Just saw this for sale in England. Was featured in Custom Car. Thought it very unusual. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TRIUMPH-RENOW...9119480?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4aa8c5dd78
Bishop - your potty-mouth (and simple-minded) response notwithstanding - this car shows craftsmanship, cohesion of design and intent and very good workmanship. So it's not everyone's 'cup of tea', the builder is a gearhead, as are most of us here. It's not a R/Rod. Does whatever you drive show the same attention to detail and design? dj
Very nice car - would have been even nicer with a Triumph straight six and tuck and roll in a colour to compliment the paint.
Can we say it together, maybe in harmony. I'm English, and even I can see that car is wrong in approximately 975,000 ways. Propwash, have you any idea how patronising and condescending you come across when you tell a fully grown adult on an adult board that they have "potty mouth"? This is the HAMB, not a kindergarten playground, so why go around acting like a teacher and talking down to fellow members like they are children? Man, I'd love to see you try it face-to-face in a bar. Peace, tolerance. Paul
Here we go with the name calling. Lets just back to the car, I do think the car is is unusual as the heading states and would be a standout in Merry Ole England.
I too don't like the seats, don't like the engine choice either, but I do like it's unusual looks for a rod. Looks like a rod the Queen would drive;-) Might not be perfect but they're not asking a lot. It looks like a nice cheap cruiser. Ed
I was expectin worse after reading all the comments, then looking at the link. Definately not my style....looks like something the SUPER NANNY would roll up in.
I'd call it a custom, not a hot rod, and the Triumph Mayflower was never a luxury car. I'm a bit ambivalent about it, but I can see there's a lot of quality work gone on there.
I like it. Subtle yet cool. Not to mention no spider webs , no flat black, no stupid skulls or other BS.
It does look American in details (color, bullets, matt bits), but that dosent getaway from the fact that it's a cool street rod, which suits me fine. Kripfink- I often need to remind myself that the HAMB is no good place for polite folk. The language here is often very 'modern'. D.W; What is a furr? 'Furren'(?).
I'm a bit late to the party obviously but agree, the mayflower was not a luxury car. However, looking at the link and seeing a Triumph RENOWN, that's a different story. They were classed as a luxury vehicle. A number of models even had a glass division between driver and passenger. I actually own 2 of these. One is being restored and the other is getting a convertible conversion with chopped screen and retaining the 4 doors. Each to their own of course.
As a Brit I often cringe at the attempts made by other Brits to align themselves to American cuture, why do they get it so wrong. We have many with the skills and vision to produce top quality work, the best woodie I ever saw was built here but there are so many who just do not 'get it'. This thing is a good example.
Take the style and class of a vintage car and the cool appeal of a hot rod... throw it all in the bin and what you're left with... is that! Just because you can, dosen't mean you should!
