I can't remember, but a buddy of mine has a set on his Ford pickup. I'll see him this weekend at the Sunflower Swap Meet and ask!
Not Palimedes, nor do they look to be magnesium. What diameter are they, any markings on the back? Maybe a sportscar wheel.
those are amazing, they look like a cross between two of my favorite and lusted after wheels for my f100-- american racing standards and forsight venture slot-mags. cool... matt
I've never seen an old wheel (old meaning 40-60's) with a counterbored lug/washer hole like that. And the lip on the edge makes me think at least 60's or later. Palamides was already making American wheels by then. For some reason they give me an English/Aussie vibe.
Didnt that blown 455 Olds powered Can-Am car have something similar on it? Name escapes me right now. I'll look when I get home. Ditto, How wide are they?
Ok, I was thinking of the '71 season Hodges LSR which was the re-worked '69 season McKee "wedgie". The wheels are similar looking, but 5 hole, so that aint it. Retired early from its one and only race, Laguna Seca, with a broken ring and pinion. Big surprise there, eh?
What size are they? That would tell us a lot about them. I'm leaning toward it being some sort of road race wheel.
ive never seen the american racing four spokes with the subtle ridge around the holes ala halibrand, or accelco? cool some other unobtanium wheel to lust after matt
The wheels are 15x9 and 1/2, they are not Magnesium. The Bolt pattern is 5 on 5 and the back spacing is 3 & 1/2. I looked all over them and I cannot find any markings. I am pretty sure they are not Halibrands. I did lots of searches on them and I did find a picture of the early 4 slot Romeo Palimedes wheels but they had no cast edge around the slots like these do. The caption said that later wheels had the cast rib around the slot, but I can't find any examples
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5780737 the last couple pictures of this thread a guy has wahat look to be the same as yours but hard to tell if the raised portion is there, i think it is. calls them palimedes, but his are mag.
The Palamides in that thread have no raised rib around the hole, no raised edge on the rim lip, no counterbored lugs, and are magnesium. The OP's are not Palamides or Halibrand.
I'm still on side with the guys who think these are road-race stuff. I've seen them somewhere before, just cant put my finger on it...
