Hi All, Thought I wouls share what happened today. I moved into a new place 2 months ago, and have been trying to get settled. I have slowly been meeting all the local neighbors. I met 1 guy that has a killer 68 chevy pickup, someone who has a great 69 firebird, and one of my neighbors has a great 1951 chevy panel van in flattened white paint. Last week I was at a BBQ at a neighbors and while talking to one of the guys I hadnot met, he metioned that he would be putting one of his cars from the 60's back on the road. I expressed interest (being a car guy) and he walked me over to his wood shed in his backyard and showed me his 1931 model A coupe (bone stock that he has had since 1961) and a 1929 model A woody (was a depot hack converted in 1960 to a woody stationwagon). He finally updated it took out the old ford V8 that was in the car from 1959 (when the current owner bought it). He put a traditional looking 383 SBC in it with a muncie 4 speed. He said it will be on the road soon. I thought that was the the finale of the car guys until I was talking to the guy that is 2 houses south of me. We started talking and he mentioned that he had a collector car in addition to his 2 Dodge Darts in his garage. He took me into the original old gargage in the back yard that was built in the thirties. He unlocked the door and then pulled the cover off of a 1957 oldsmobile coupe that was red and white and gorgeous. It was on jack stands with a battery tender hooked to the battery. The car has an original 9300 miles on it. The owner is the original owner and said he was making good money in the fifties, so he bought the car, stored it for retirement. When he retired he decided that it is too nice to drive much, so he only does a few hundred miles a year in it now. Last time he drove it was last year. He takes it to one of the shows in Novemebr, so he always gets it out and running every Nov. Now I can't wait to see what cars show up in the neighborhood next week. -Spence
I know what you mean. I guess all the neighbors around here weren't too crazy about me with my bike but as soon as the Dodge showed up in my driveway I have alot of new friends. Two guys just about 4 house down from me showed up on Saturday and started to talk, found out one guy has an all steel 30 Model A sedan and the other a 1930 Chrysler sport coupe. But they also said to me "Oh your the guy with the bike"
I happened to glance over at the open garage of the corner house accross the street from me. I've never met these people and rarely ever see them. I saw what looked to be a silverish car with semi horseshoe tailights. Upon further inspection, it was indeed a '62 Catalina...with 7 or 8 boxes stacked on top of it and a fake christmas tree sticking out of the p***enger window. I want to save this car so badly, but I can't bring myself to inquire about it. I hate to see this car just sit there and collect more dust and junk. I've lived here over a year now and the car has never been moved. I think I might finally go over and introduce myself.
I know how you feel. One day I came home from work for lunch and I see a stock model A tudor in front of my house. Turns out he ran out of gas, lives right down the street from me. He had seen my '47 around, but was just as suprized as me when I told him there's an A coupe hot rod in my garage. Later I found out across the street from him a guy has a '37 Ford dump truck, complete with 21 stud motor, that he still uses to clean up his yard with and the truck is nice! Not to mention the several galaxies, cougar, '50 ford sedan, and early nova I knew were hiding back at the end of my street.
I was at a car show the other day and saw a custom '50 Ford owned by a guy who lives in my town(of only 3,000 people). I've been in town 2 years, and have NEVER seen that car before. I guess he's afraid it might get dirty or something
nothing around here.......unless you count mullet cars.........but then there's the billetfest cars shows on tues and thursday nights.....
there's been nothing interesting found in my neighbors' garages except for when one of the older ladies died. her kids found a whole case of dynamite in her ba*****t garage sitting next to the furnace. apparently it was there from her deceased husbands days when he was a lineman setting telephone poles.
So is the 'old Ford V8' still around???? The only thing better than car-guy neighbors are neighbors that give you old stuff when they 'update' their car.
An ex-neighbour took me into his garage years back and showed me a new "plastic" ford ****** ,he wondered why i wasnt interested as he said "well your a ford guy"...i just walked away..........but if he had what your neighbour showed you it would be a different story
