Thinking about ordering from Denny's custom driveshaft. Anybody have a good or bad experience with them? I could have my shaft made local, but I've done that before and it wasn't any cheaper. Besides they all (2 shops) want me to come in and "talk". I understand that, but then again, I don't. I don't want to "talk", I want to pay money and have it show up on my doorstep. I have all the specs figured out. Denny's website is quite straight forward / user friendly which is why I was leaning towards them. It's freekin' cold outside here now and 2 trips to the local driveshaft shop is going to cost the same(in time and money) as having UPS bring it to me. Any other mail order shops or a local shop that will do it over the phone, let me know please.

PS I contacted ADL on University ave. and suprise!-I got a dummy. Also, I had one made at clutch and ujoint in Brooklyn Park on hwy 81 in the past for $300+ dollars. That place is 45 minutes one-way from my house, 2 visits is 3 hours in the car. 3 hours isn't too bad, but when it's zero degrees outside - I'd rather not.............

  2. no experience with Denny's , other than their website for the instructions

i've used Catco in Burnsville...now called Fleet Pride. and yes you will have to hold their hand. i print out Denny's form and bring it in to them. then they will do a great job

They built the one under my 27 over 25 years ago and it has been perfect for a bazillion hard miles. It still has the original u joints in it and the original powdercoated finish (complete with Denny's decal) are still looking good. I can not recommend them enough.

They made one for my coupe, a couple of years ago, and it's perfect. I'll be getting one from them, for my '39 plymouth soon.

I used them aboit 20 years ago for a driveshaft for my dirt modified. Fast service and fit right. Remember, this was 20 years ago. (that may be good or bad; probably good).

Yeah, that sticker gives the car 100 more HP. :D Also, the possums I run over are very impressed by it.

The only reason I haven't used Dennys's on our later cars is because I found a good local driveline guy and can get them done the same day or next day. But no question Denny does a great job.

  9. you don't always need a new driveshaft , you can get one too long cut down....sand blast/paint and some new u-joints you can save some money

or....you can get lucky and find the correct length one. junkyards used to have a driveshaft pile you could pick through.....with most cars being FWD the pile is getting smaller. the driveshaft in the car in my avatar is not cut...i think it came out of a early 70s Nova. the correct slip yoke and u-joints and i was ready to go

i have an ***ortment of driveshafts here for myself , i friend probably has 50-60 i can dig through. you can also get different length slip yokes

    curious....what motor/****** and rear end?

I just had Denny's make me a driveshaft this past year. I would highly recommend them. Very nice job and great customer service.

I have a Dennys drive shaft in my OT vehicle . A 1975 2 wd blazer at 4300 lbs and with a 634 hp 572 Turbo 400 its a proven performer fit and function perfect . I HIGHLY recommend a DENNYS drive shaft .

The reason MOST driveshafts places ( local type ) want to talk and you hold their hand is ... most folks measure wrong or do not know what they really need. :D

Fleet Services builds good stuff. The one here in Columbia SC is very knowledgeable and capable.

    BUT ...
most of the time ... a driveshaft can be found at the salvage yard.

It just takes a older salvage yard with rear wheel drive vehicles. I have a stock, non modified 88 Corvette aluminum driveshaft in my 32 Ford roadster and a Camaro IROC aluminum driveshaft in my 32 3W. The Camaro driveshaft was shortened by Fleet Services.

I'm also thinking of using their driveshaft. I've looked around on the internet for a while, but keep going back to their site. From what I hear from you guys, they are the way to go. Anyone else have experience with Denny's?

Denny's made me a slip spline drive shaft last year.Excellent workmanship, reasonably fast service. I did talk to Denny.....he spares no words on how good he is...:D
I also used Drive Shaft Spe******ts in San Antonio a few years ago,as good as Denny's in my opinion for less money.
Both were phone orders, shafts delivered on time.
No local shops around here doing quality work........

  16. Top Notch!

Not the cheapest, but top notch.

But hey, you get what you pay for.

I used Action Machine out of South Bend, IN #800-830-0219 actionmachineinc.com

I ordered up a standard steel driveshaft with both u-joints and new slip yolk, it was under $300 shipped to my door. I called in the order on Tuesday and it was on my porch Friday. (I also got a sticker with mine)!

Deuce Roadster is right about having a local shop do it in case you mismeasure. I laughed at a buddy of mine who had to have the driveshaft shop redo his shaft 3 times because he kept mismeasuring. But when I was having the shaft built for the Jeep pickup I put the 302 Ford into, I forgot the weight of the car has to be on the rear wheels. I had the truck up on jackstands. When I got the driveshaft home it was too long. They had to cut some off and this time I got it right.

The way our local shop has us measure is they want the distance between the flat spot on the back of the tailshaft to the recess where the U joint lays on the rear yoke. They take it from there and calculate the amount of travel the yoke should slide into the ******, etc.

Denny's is practically in my backyard, went there for my truck and got nothing but an arrogant ***hole insulting me. I would never recommend that deuchbag to anyone !
Took my same measurements and called Inland Empire Drive Line http://www.iedls.com got a driveshaft for a little less but way faster and fit like a glove ! My Henry J drive shaft I had made local at FleetPride, car pulls the wheels and breaks axles, driveshaft stays in straight and true, I'd go there again too. But never ever set foot in Denny's shop again in my life time.

    The verdict is in.....................
Decided to do what I said, and picked up the phone. Kester at Action Machine (South Bend Indiana) and I talked for about 4 minutes last Wednesday. Today, there was a box on my doorstep. I never even tried Fleet Pride - I don't know why, I just didn't. No junkyard searches, no icy roads, no BS. I sent Denny's an email before I even posted this thread requesting a quote. They have not responded yet. That's just a fact, I'm sure they do nice work. My shaft was $332 delivered. Notice it has all new parts, both yokes are installed (one ford / one chevy), it's painted, balanced and it has a cool sticker. DUN done!:D
