What to do at the pileup... other than drink beer and tell lies. What to do in your downtime at the Hunnert Car Pileup? Where to eat? What to see? Eats: You can eat at some of the local places, seriously, great food. A good place for breakfast on sat or Sunday morning.. "R" place truck stop.. complete with CB accessories showers and some cool video games and truckers lounge.. not to mention great great food.. also awesome for that late night drunken chow. I have been in there many a late night. Not to mention.. but its right across from all the hotels.. http://www.rplaceromines.com/ There is a Culvers just south of the highway.. for your ****er burger cravings. And there is a walmart right there too. There are tons of fast food places and other restaurants right there on rt 47. Heading more into town just west of town on route 6 is an old restaurants called "Rockwell Inn". It is the "cl***y" place in town and serves up nice steak dinners. Bring your girl for dinner to impress her. Rockwell Inn Also a spot to eat right next to Fools Pub.. Corleone's Italian Restaurant. A good spot for Italian beef and meatball sandwiches. Nice young high school girls work there for you old perv's. There are numerous bars along the main street of town that serve food in the afternoons. Things going on that weekend: The Sunday after pileup.. which would be the 9th. The Morris Lions Club holds their annual car show and swap meet. I know some of ya'll hit it last year and did pretty good. Some good stuff, for pretty cheap, and a great bunch of guys. Its just a short ride (5miles)east on rt6 .. basically turn as if you are going to walmart and keep on that road. Its across the street from the Lyondell chemical company plant. You should seriously hit this on your way out of town Sunday... I will have some flyers at the pileup for those interested. Hit the "Big R" store.. its just like a farm and fleet.. only a little cheaper. Lots of cool stuff. Accomodations: I believe most of the hotels are booked, call to see if there is room, see the website for details. So at the fairgrounds we will be allowing tent camping in the parking lot. Between the race track entrance and the main gate.. along the fence. There is no restrooms at night and no showers water or electricity. Also you can't build a fire. I will however try to hook up a couple porta-johns outside the fairgrounds gate. If you are nice, someone who has a hotel room may let you in to shower in their room... or you can hit the truck stop right there and shower with the truckers If you have a camper you can also pull it in there, there are no hookups, or you can use the wall mart parking lot. If you are broke down: There are 3 main auto parts stores...Kindlespires (show sponsor), Napa and Fischer.. none are open on Sunday. So if you break something.. do it on Saturday. If you need something ask around or let one of the Chrome Czars or show staff know and we will make some announcements to see if we cant hook you up.
Its got a great selection. from what I've heard anyways. Don't attempt the 'Big Ethyl' 4 pound hamburger at R's place. You get a patty that is unseasoned and greasy, I swear its ground New York City sewer rat, not hamburger. Mine had a whole jar of pickles on it and a full pound of government cheese underneath a 'bun' that looked more like Rosie O'donell's couch cushion than any sort of bread product. You have to eat the thing in under an hour. (stomach pumping not included) ...and yes, I'm bitter. From what the guys I was with said, the other burgers are actually quite good.
Ahhh, Corleones. I miss them. How about LaMex? Are they still around in their little downtown slice of ol' MeHeeCo? Great guacamole and enchiladas. R Place was a family favorite. You can't go wrong there. I mean, they have dancing bears and everything.
don't forget the POWER WHEELSTANDING CHAMPIONSHIPS at Byron Dragway on Sunday.... I love that event..... LUKESTER
Isn't the midwest cow tipping championship the same weekend? Hard to p*** up such a time honored tradition.
Yes.. but the cheese curd vendor has died of .. well.. heart issues The **** shop.. i have been told.. is the best one in 100 miles or more. Even have those flick machines.. plus lots of other "items" you can give out as birthday gifts and such... And its ideally situated right between the hotels.. Not that i would know.. i just hear things... There seems to be quite a few things going on.. but i would definitly hit that Lions car show and swap.
Yeah, do it... man or mouse? (I'd do it, but the pics are at home. Pick the one where I'm biting the bun)
I was doing a little ego surfing and came across some pics I dont think I've seen before http://www.anycities.com/user/crudpics/pileup1.html http://public.fotki.com/DWDarby/past_car_shows/hunnert_car_pileup_2004/ hahahahaha!! http://2quicknovas.suddenlaunch.com/index.cgi?board=shows&action=display&num=1121108732
I can feel the chest pains now lookin at that burger. In the words of Fred Sanford,"I'm comin' lizabeth." Bob
Mapquest (a generic one from Morris to Byron) says just a tick over 100 miles. We did it two years ago. WELL worth the drive and parking nightmares.
From Morris to lovely Byron. You guys want a personal tour of some more nothing to look at? Or should I say from one powerplant to the next. You get a good look at the cooling towers while youre trying to see the times at the end of the track! As long as were talking about unnecessarily(?) large foods Byrons got a "1/4" lb hot dog that looks like a babys leg.
