just thinking if we are so old school, how about a 40 Ford complete front axel. ??????? they did it a lot, back in the day.. I am starting a 55 Chevy, 2dr, wagon, into a g***er LOOK...with new technology these days, might work fine.. what do ya think ???
There is a thread about this somewhere and it said the single transverse mounted spring wasn't as good as twin semi's, I'm ***uming its stability/body roll that is worse but a well designed anti roll bar should fix that i would of thought.
Here my set up still have a little more to get it finished up. I using chevy truck axle and built the spring mounts and the hair pins.
Its your car do it how every you want. That is a good look go for it !!! & then go turn some heads with it !!! Trouble
Hey Coololdcars Your front crossmember looks pretty damn nice. I am planning on fabricating something along those lines for my studebaker.
This is my 2nd Henry J. First one is my Avitar. It had parrell leafs. I already had this axle ,so I went ahead and used it. Not many henrys go this route, so it will be different. Gonna run as setback Pontiac motor, turbo 400, and a 12 bolt posi rear. If I get it where I want it, I have a Halibrand Champ quickchange I may hafta slide in it!!!
This is a good setup, inthat it gives a solid 3-spring foundation. Body roll (if any) should be addressed by an antiroll bar on the rear, if the idea of a single spring axle up front is to save weight... Aesthetically, the single transverse leaf front screams "Ford!" (and they go under the Fords like they were designed for it, the '54-'59s, anyway, with their heavy tube crossmember...just weld a perch on. And replace the rusty front crossmember with a 2" tube) Also, a good excuse to use hairpins... But there have been countless tri-5 Chevys with front transverse leaf axles...
