I am looking for a used transmission jack in the Sevierville.T.N area 37876 to help me drop the transmission in my 1956 buickto replace the front seal. Please let me know if you can help with a price. Thanks Bruce.
One thing I did a while back when swapping my trans is, for less than $100 bucks o' reilly auto parts sells a adaptor for a regular floor jack basically just a plate with the peg to go into your floor jack and some chains. might be something to look into saves money if you own a floor jack and o'reilly/checker or what ever they are called in your state a usually everywhere.
oooooo! I like that I want one now and under $100 bucks thats a sweat deal, I like how low it is. I just bought a O/T 77 CJ5 Jeep a few months back and pulled the trans/tranfercase with my old jack with the huge plate and that plate got in the way, that one looks like it would make a job alot easier too.
Thanks for the input guys. I am about ready to just park this 56 buick wagon in the front yard for yard art and plant flowers around it!!!!Bruce.
I've got one, and it ain't that low. Auto trans in and out of my roadrunner on ramps or stands, it won't roll under with the trans on the jack. So I have to manhandle it on and off the jack while both are already under the car. It was fine with a 4-speed, it's the integral bellhousing of the auto that causes trouble. Other than that it works pretty well. I've used it for lots of things too heavy to fight with - ****tershield, 8-3/4 hogs head, front differential from a truck, etc. Well worth buying, just get some tall jack stands while you're at it.
I wish I had pictures from the last time I swapped the transmission out in my truck, It was the most rigged crazy looking set up. I took 5 ratchet straps st****d them to both sides of the frame about 4 inches apart and lifted the trans evenly with the straps and used a regular floor jack to move the transmission forward on the straps to meet up with the motor, since I didnt have any extra hands at the time and I am impatient. I was so proud when it all worked, cause I looked at it and questioned myself what the hell am I doing?!?!!?....
Wow, I like that idea MoparJoel. My experience has been the same as b-body-bob's, if the car is high enough for jack and transmission to roll under jack doesn't reach, low enough to reach jack won't go under with transmission (with low budget jacks anyway). Your idea would make it easier to get the jack under it. Wish I'd have been that clever when I put the E4OD back in my F350, them things is heavy!
Well guys took your advice and walked away for a day from the wagon and feel better.I usally have to work by myself but my stepson said he will come up tomorrow and we are going to try and pull the rear end out on the 56 buick station wagon. Then if we can find or make a floor jack i will atempt to drop the trans.Thur or Friday.I will keep you posted and thanks for all your help.Bruce.
