I have been trying to identify thls low mount SBC driver's side alt mount short pump. It is the tightest one I have seen and since I don't have a lot of space it would work for me. I have searched and searched and cannot see one like it butI think it's an off-t******lf bracket . What seems to make it different is the aparent tightening bolt between the brackets. The tightness to the crank and lowness is important. As an alternate I could use a p*** side high mount that is tight to the valve cover and in close to the engine. Any ideas helpful as there are dozens of different brakcets out there and you have to almost see them to understand Has anyone seen a bracket like this or maybe identify it? Thanks.
We use these; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1962...s?hash=item5187333461&_trksid=p4506.m20.l1116 Not sure if its similar to what your looking for but we use them in the cramped engine compartments of early novas with V8 installs. They come in black and chrome. Rudy from Modern Performance in California sells them.
I have one of those multi-piece brackets you illustrated. Got it from a friend years. Wouldn't mind knowing the maker either.
These are nice but not tight enough. In my photo you can see they hug the crank pully. Fab skills good but this is too much time for right now. Got to drive it and this would be a lot of time for small gain if I can buy one cheap enough.
The on above bolts to the same two holes on block. If one will fit so will the other one . The one in your first pic looks like a RPC they are sold at Barnetts Performance here in Ga... But I've run both of them this is my .02
only problem i see with the first one is poor belt wrap on the crank pulley. the alternator is too low and pulling the belt off the pulley.
Speedway has them, but you can find these all day long in swap meets for $15-$20. I've used this style so I can hide it low and out of the way. Depending on the style of pulleys your using. All you have to do is shim it with some washers or spacers. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Small-Block-Chevy-Low-Mount-Alternator-Brackets,3447.html
Thank you all very much. The black mount above is indeed the tightest one made. There are actully a number of different low and lower mounts made--plus what one can fabricate--but I don't think they get any tighter or less expensive than this. Speedway, and others have a "lower" mount similar to this and a "low" mount that is not quite as low. With the lower one-similar to the bottom photo above, you can fit a standard alternator in a space as wide as it is plus maybe 1/8"-3/16" clearance. Thanks guys, I spent a lot of time trying to figue this out and it's now solved in a couple minutes. Happy motoring.
I think the 2 piece w/spacers in the 1st set of pics is available from TransDapt, part #8990 and works with a short water pump. Alan Grove makes nice ones too. I wish the catalogs would come out and say which altenator their brackets will work with, easy to get a trick little brackets and then find it'll only work with a $250 altenator the size of a coffee cup.
that bracket above would have been a problem solver on the last stocker nova race car i messed with. the normal "low mount" always seems to put the alternator into the crossmember or the steering box. will have to keep that link for referrence. thanks brandon
Alan Grove, nice stuff made in Kansas by people that even speak english! I buy ALL my brackets from them Never had a problem one!
I use them too. Good stuff made in the USA... http://www.alangrovecomponents.com/Small_Block_Short_Pump.htm http://www.alangrovecomponents.com/Catalog.htm
