$450,000 for 4 1/2 acres of desert. maybe $10,000 worth of old tin and s****, a clapped out house. That license must be worth a pile of money.

  6. Yeah but remember its California..that wont but barely buy a house with a small lot......

Doesn't he state in the text that when he got the license he was told it was not again transferable?
He's just hoping he can get a variance/waiver.

    BEWARE!

450k will only buy you 2 acres of dirt in AZ and if its got a house....damn whether it needs to be remodeled ornot itsworth the money in california.

unfourtunately in todays market thats a deal

and a new license is easy to obtain, salvage licenses are never ment to be transferable. a license needs a bond and a credit/backround search. easily done and taken care of

  9. As it is in other areas of the US, he probably was indicating it was"grandfathered in".....meaning it was in operation under that name and was exempt from reg's that a new business would face....or that the approval was not for sure a guarantee of availability of a liscence to the new owner?

  10. This guy is full of bunk. I know him.

He has no dismantlers license. I went to look at his place last year, he has some cool stuff, nothing great. All he had for a license was a business license to sell his ebay stuff or whatever. The dismantling permit was turned in by the family when the old guy died. Never to be reissued.

But if his parts sale is on, its worth going up for that!

Ray, I figured somehow you probably knew about this place when I saw the 59 Ford. It looks like a lot more cars than it probably is because all of the same cars are in all the pictures. I only see maybe a dozen that would be decent parts.
Getting a dismantlers license anywhere isn't easy and I would think Cali. is tougher than most. Even in the fine state of Texas where we still pave school grounds with crude oil and dirt mixture, you have to do all the dismantling on a slab with the fliuds being caught. The 80 year old guy where I get most of my stuff is grandfathered in but even his own kids can't carry on that business as it is in his hands.

I see more than 10k worth of metal sitting there, and we have no idea what is hiding in the corners. The price is kinda high, but I'm not familiar with the area.

  17. 450K for a house and less than 5 acres in Mojave is a ****in rip off...DO a simple search on the property and you will see that he HAS to sell...It ain't worth that kind of dough. I will bet there are a couple of liens and a couple more issues. Not a good buy for sure.

  18. Not to mention he may be in line for a million dollar EPA digout/ground cleanup and trying to get out of it.

A million might not touch a cleanup of a long time yard in sandy soil. Knew a guy who bought a gas station in the 80s. Poor sap signed on all the responsabilitys and then the epa came in and it turned out it had a leaking tank and the cleanup was 1.5m back then. He walked away from it and disappeared. What else could you do.

there ARE a few nice parts out there, BUT you will be paying a least what they are worth and have to haggle with a dirt ball.

I am into cheap prices more than "I can get ----- on Ebay for these" type prices

I get the "I can get...on ebay" all the time at swap meets. Mostly from old dinosaour dudes that don't even know what a keyboard is. Then I say something like"Oh, are you on ebay? What's your user name? I am on there all the time, make 1/2 my living selling on ebay". ALAWAYS, they back down and say they have a buddy who has a friend that knew a guy whose cousin sold one for blah blah on ebay. If it's worth that on ebay then spend a couple hundred for a camera, then set your *** in front of the computor for a couple hours a day and deal with it. Ebay is no free lunch for sellers, it's work.
