It's a score for me for that.... I just traveled 900 miles round trip this weekend to pickup a 1956 Plymouth suburban custom in Fremont,ca. Well when I get there I give the guy the money and he asks me... Do you want a 1956 Plymouth savoy? I say how much? He says... FREE! I said I'll be right back!! So we loaded the BURB on the trailer and took off, dropped her off in coalinga, and went back for the savoy. Got em back home and now wondering if I should pull this mirror out of the suburban and stick something more reliable in it. I'm thinking mopar, but my budgets saying 350. What do you guys suggest on a rear end? I want something easy and cheap. I am not a hot rodder, just a cruiser. What do you suggest?

Mopar made a "350" poly mirror (haha), if thats what your thinking as I would hate to see anything else in there. Why not a stout 318/360. Pics would help.

Its not period correct, but those 440's can be had for cheap. You find them in 70's motor homes.

  7. Congrats! I'm not a purest by any stretch but I'd want a Mopar, correction BIG Effing Mopar in it. However I get the cheap thing too. Put the small block in there and start saving your nickles till you have the bread for a 440. You know a warmed over 360 with an intake and a set of headers runs pretty good and are'nt hard to find cheap in old trucks.

Ha ha... That's funny you say that. There's a guy at my dads shop with a 70's Winnebago with a 440 magnum in it that he wants to give away. But we have to take the whole damn motorhome! It's a cousin Eddie special so it would be a hard sell without a motor and we don't have a way to transport a 27' shell. The damn motor is rebuilt and the ****** is too. Food for thought for sure!

Get the Winnebago, I'm sure you need a spare room.

If the RV has 19.5 wheels with a 5 bolt pattern they're worth about $500 to the old Ford truck guys. Pull the engine and wheels and s**** the rest.

Big Ford trucks, F-4 through F-6, of the late '40s to mid '50s came with Widow Maker wheels no reputable tire shop will work on. The 19.5 wheels on mid 70 Dodge RVs have the same bolt pattern.

Ahh, ok...they replace the old split rims, I gotcha. I'm gonna have to keep my eye out for those. Thanks for the explanation, JohnnyA

Sounds like a great score...I'm a little confused about how you got both cars home..was that 900 miles because of 2 trips? No matter, but please, please not ANOTHER 350 Chevy. Just mho, but anything post war should be kept in the same family.

  20. if i could get a 440 magnum and a 727 thats been recently rebuilt for free i wouldnt care what it was in id be unbolting before the word free got out of the owners mouth

some of those 70's motor home 440's have water cooled/jacketed heads =useless

I agree, get that RV in a heartbeat. Pull the motor/trans, s**** or salvage the rest. If it's an aluminum shell, you'll make $$. If it's fibergl***, a weekend with a sawzall get's it outa your hair, and still a good deal for a free motor/trans. Whats left of the ch***is is s****able (more $$ still).

  23. i agree with everyone...we need pics. also get the motor home, yank the block and ******. s**** the rest.
