As many of you have spent all day reading this thread, I personally apologize for this waste of time. Now for the rest of the story...

The majority of the info posted by Slick Bastard, AKA Kris Bluntzer of Empire Services is factually and blatantly incorrect. The only part of the story that is factual is there was an agreed price on the frame of 5300 complete. It was a pay as you go deal and as of this date, we have 3000 of Mr. Bluntzer's money and a frame, complete, sitting in the corner as I write this. The frame has been completed since June.

The Photo that was posted, was very early in the build...we have all the emails to corroborate this. We also have over 14 emails to Mr. Bluntzer and many phone conversations on this frame build. We have proof of all communications.

The timeline in question was adhered to on all services rendered while building the frame. The only time the frame was stopped, was to collect money for time spent building the frame...Pay as you go.

I have paperwork on this project as I do all projects...this is how we stay organized with our clients.

I am posting photos of the frame as it sits in our shop. The frame is complete, excluding a custom feature that is awating Mr Bluntzer's input to finish the frame. This was included in the price. The tool he was referring to, was approved to be purchased by him for this build.

I have accurately stated everything that has transpired on this business and this is my side of the story. I will not comment on this issue any further and once again apologize for Mr Bluntzer.

If anybody wants to come by the shop, I will be happy to show them this frame that is standing in the corner and the dust that has collected on it. Thanks-MC

  6. FWIW:I have had no dealings with MC, but he comes with one of the best reputations in the business. MC, I'm sure all serious Hambers are well aware of your integrity, and do not doubt your story in the least. The internet is unfortunately a festering pool hatching all sorts of keyboard warriors and allowing expression to all manner of deranged and sick-minded people.

Who the fu*k are you and how does it concern you? I know MC has a rep, but I'm sorry, that's a $700 frame. If that. I've never heard of a customer having to buy equipment for a shop to do the work. What is the "special feature" that adds $4,600 to that frame?

Why is this thread still open?

Good to finally see (hear) the other side of story, and I believe you, he just did not make sense, I have only been to your shop once and was impressed, you run a good ship. Too bad there are always Ass Holes who try and shoot you down. Keep up the good work. Larry

Maybe you (Mercury Charlie) should enlighten us on what makes the frame you were going to build him worth that much money. $5300, good lord were you going to 24K gold plate it ?

I see a little tubing and some welding, and not a hell of a lot of moneys worth either.

I could build what you have sitting there for less than $500 in materials and the whole thing for less than $1000.

Looks like a bullshit ripoff of a customer on your part to me.

I normally don't post but it is good to read the other side of the story! I read the other thread or tirade by Slick Whatever and think he is sour grapes. Squeaky wheel gets the grease...I would have used shit!

There are always two sides to every story and the truth usually lies somewhere in between. It's hard to sit here and try to make sense of the deal you two made because to me the numbers don't add up. Even the picture you posted today of that frame doesn't look anywhere near $5300 or even the $3000 you collected so far.

Even being generous, I see no more than $1000, maybe $1200 tops for a frame like that one. Am I missing something?

This is like watching a football game where I hope both teams lose. Sounds like Slick Bastard may be a crook and unless a lot more work was done to the frame after that picture was taken someone else may be too. $5300.00? Plus the cost of a special mystery tool?? WTF???

Haha I would say someone should close this thread but it's quite entertaining. I hope the guy agreed to a whole lot more than what's been built for $5300...

I spent a weekend at Mercury Charlie's for a Gene Winfield workshop and feel that I got to know him fairly well. His shop and his work are top notch. If a customer agrees to a price for a job then it's not my call to say that the price was too high or too low...it is a contract between the shop and the customer. None of us other than Charlie and Bluntzer know what transpired in communication between them so we can't say one way or another whether there is culpability for the schedule overrun. Any of us who have run a business knows what it's like to deal with customers...they change their minds and many times think that a change in design should come at no additional charge. The worst offenders are those who "can do the work themselves" and regret spending money to pay someone else. Sound familiar?
    My money is with Charlie...
