I just read an article about '57-'64 Pontiac/Olds 9.3" rear ends. They say that they're pretty bullet proof. Does anyone know if the 1959 Caddy rear uses any of the same parts?

Nobody???? I haven't been able to find out anything about the Caddy rear. With all the knowledge on the H.A.M.B. & nobody talkin'-I have to ***ume this is some kind of conspiracy...Alien origins, area 51 perhaps?

The resergence in intrest in the 9.3 may have been started by a guy with a yard full of them. In the fifties and into the sixties when the engines quickly outgrew the drivetrain, The Olds/Pont was all the rage. I am now into restoration of my former drag styled '40 and it's just an anchor on my ***. Hope Street Rodder's article makes it easier to sell mine. Thanks for mentioning it. Fred A

That was back in the glory days of GM..when their cars used to be different from each other...Chevy had one style rearend..Olds Pontiac were esentially the same...Buick and Cadillacs were always different. What are you looking for? Small parts can be had on Ebay and online....or you can find a parts rearend for bigger stuff....but to answer your question..they are near bulletproof in a Cad if they are full of gear oil.

Thanks guys, I'm going to be running a very torquey 500+ c.i. Caddy engine in a very heavy 1959 Cadillac and I don't want to find a weak link the hard way. I was thinking 9" Ford, but, that article got me thinking & I know nothing about the old Pontiac, Olds, or Caddy rear ends.

Fred A, just curious, why do you not want to run it in your car & what are you going to replace it with?

I believe that Cadillac had their own rear end design back then, and I doubt that any of the hard parts from the Olds/Pontiac rears will work in it.

The Cadillac axle doesn't interchange with anything. The ring gear is riveted to the ***embly. Most all are a 3.08 ratio although the flower car often came with a 3.27 or right around there and the ambulance at a 3.73

I take it that means the Olds & Pontiac housings are not a bolt in. I thought I might luck into an easy swap for a stronger rear end.

    Some good info guy's.

  13. The whole rear may fit, the only way would be to measure and see. I only meant that none of the internals interchange.

The Pontiac rear end (58-64) may be closest to the Cadillac. It uses a 3 link suspension and IIRC so does the Cadillac. (Kind of A-arm) for the torque arm. 61-64 Olds uses coils, but not sure how they did torque control. This may also apply for 61-64 Buicks too.

This is a restoration of a standard business coupe. Even thinking of putting a 60 that I have in it. The heavy duty rear axle is a waste of strength for a light duty project. Have several '40 rear axles to choose from. Good Luck: Fred A

:)What trany are you going with? I read Ford C-6 is the most bullet-proof trany out there, and is adaptable to GM engines. Bill aka Tnomoldw.:D
