I know all about 57 olds rear ends considering that was the common swap back in the day, I am just curious as to why this fellow awais wants to swap in a 54 olds rear
Research the difference between the '54 and the '57 to '64 rear axles. There is a definite strength advantage with the later type.
use a 57-64 Olds if you must, but you will be limited on gear ratio's.Dutchman make strong axles for Olds
The big problem with the pre-57 olds rears is lack of new gears, and lack of limited slips. I wish there were more parts available, they were WAAAAY more common in hot rods in the sixties than just about any other rear except for the drop-out center 8.2" ten bolt. And they were more popular in FED's than the big '57 up rear, especially in legs under cars. And they look REALLY good chromed.
