anyone know the part number or what vendor I can get a 2 piece rear seal conversion for this block from? I see plenty of talk about one on my search, but no numbers or definites. Any help is great.

To add more info, the block is a 265 from a 1957 chevy. Just to be clear.

Classic Chevy (Eckler's) and Danchuk both have the neopreme. I got mine from Classic Chevy 2 years ago. Not a drop!

  6. choptop,
I have only out a 2 piece rear main seal in when I was doing an overhaul. Felpro overhaul gaskets for the small journal 283 and 25 have the conversion as well as the rope seal.

I wish I could help you, but I have not converted one that I was not overhauling. I have had good luck with the felpro unit if that helps any.

Run a thin line of silicone outward from the end of the seal to where the main cap locates, in case you get a little "side-squirting". Be very careful...don't "goop" it up. Thin line is enuff.

To follow up on this post, I got a seal conversion kit from Eckler. I got 2 just in case. I had heard mixed emotions about it while digging around. Worked great the first time! Part # 18-133. works for 265-283 for years 1955-1958. I was even able to do it in the car. Had to drop the idler arm and cross over to do it. But easy enough. Hope this helps someone in the future.
