I'm at a bit of a loss and need some advice. I've got a 1950 3600 Chevy. I just replaced the starter motor as I had gotten to the point that hitting it with a hammer no longer worked. After putting the new one in, putting the same starter button on(it appeared clean and in decent shape) and re attaching the cables to the starter and battery, the new starter motor won't turn over. Thinking terminals may be corroded I pulled the battery cables and cleaned them. Still no luck. I've got power coming off the battery. The fuel gauge works when power is going to it. Any advice would be helpful. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Just because you replaced the starter does not necessarily mean the starter was good even if it is new.
Poor connection on the "start" terminal, or in the wire itself, can cause that. Short the "S" terminal to power on the solenoid and see if it turns over, if so it's not getting enough juice to the solenoid to kick it in.
sounds like you need some investigative work with a test light before you throw parts at it hoping to fix it
I always test stuff before I install it ... By button, do you mean the switch for the pedal linkage or do you have a solenoid type starter ?
If your battery mounts on the fire wall , acid can seep down the cables , eating the copper. try jumper cables negative side only from battery to ground on your starter ,If the starter Kicks you have a poor ground.
Jump out the push switch on the floor. Make sure you turn the key on and the starter is getting juice ( I don't know why they call it JUICE ) LOL. Check if battery has full charge. Make sure it is out of gear before you jump out the starter switch.
